Snifter or tumbler (scotch drinkers?) - Page 2

I see the snifters out all the time -- most places with a decent scotch selection serve in them. I don't really like it, either. Dunno why. I prefer some vintage heavy 'cracked' glass tumblers that I have nine times out of ten. If I'm doing a serious tasting I'll pull out my Reidel XO Cognac glass, which is the closest thing I can find to a very old Scotch 'nosing' glass from, well, I forget which distillery, that I've seen pictured. I don't really like Reidel's single malt glass very much. I also don't like crystal tumblers, the combination of the delicacy of crystal with the heavy sturdiness of a tumbler doesn't work for me. Whatever tumbler you choose, it should have a cut glass rim rather than a rolled rim. This does matter. My tumblers: The Reidel: ~ Huntsman

Highball for drinking. Need to get one of those tulip glasses to do some taste testing.

I prefer a tumbler.

A tumbler with an ice cube if it's something simple or common like Macallan 12 or Glenlivet 12. For the times you just want to kick back with a glass of scotch without concentrating too hard on it, a tumbler is best for sure. Anything beyond that deserves a snifter or specialized glass of some kind. A tumbler does nothing to enhance flavor or aroma.

What do ya'll think?

This.

Mine have rolled rims, though.

I admit to being a philistine as I just use whatever coffee mug happens to be clean.

I also favor the Glencairn glass. It is even an improvement over the brandy snifter for nosing. It is also a surprisingly durable little glass.
