I cant wait to see these.  But isn't Momo Vintage label's indigo already a mix of pure and natural?  I thought that's how momo and flathead rolled on the reg.

No, it's all synthetic indigo. Otherwise they couldn't get that deep, almost black, blue colortone on the cotton denim. Natural indigo gives a clear blue tone, like for example the Momo Gold label has, and that's around the deepest natural indigo gets.

Doesn't it depend on the number or dips? Indigo oxidizes when in contact with air, creating the color. After drying is complete, they start over again, creating a deeper blue. Hence, the more dips in indigo dye, the darker the color gets.

Might be true though that natural indigo isn't capable of creating a dark blue. Don't know about that.

True, it depends on the number of dips, first dip and it's still almost white, next dip gets a little more blue, and so forts. But natural indigo has a maximum in the tone of blue it can acquire. Been at the Momotaro natural dye factory couple years back, they even have a name for each tone of blue the indigo reaches.

Ah, allright. Like I said, didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.

Anyone used http://www.okayamadenim.com/?
The Japan Blues are $150 vs. $200 on BlueOwl
post #3022 of 3350

^ AFAIK, it's legit.  I've usually seen JB at the $170 price point, $150 is great!

I'll usually still buy from BlueOwl just because of the $20 points you get off for future purchase (which will usually be on some exclusive collab) and he chainstitch hems them to whatever length you want, so you can just wear them when you get them...instant gratification is worth something...to me, at least

Thanks El_A.

They are far from finished though, should make more effort to put more wear into these. They are my long term project, hehe.

I've been browsing this thread for the past year and a half or so and I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on my first pair of momos (and my first pair of raw denim). Just making sure that everything I think actually is factually correct.

I'm a 6'4" guy with a 35" inseam and a 34" waist so I want to get something that will have an inseam around 36-37" after washing for some textured stacking/honeycombing. I'm also in the process of putting on a bit of weight which I've noticed has made my thighs larger which means I need something around 12.5" or larger in the thigh. I'd prefer there to be more of a taper on the jeans, but anything that tapers seems to be too small for me in the rise/thigh areas.

All of this has lead me to think I need the 201's in a 34, but I'm curious as to whether or not I'll be able to fit into them after a hot was or not? Will they shrink too much for me or is there any advice you can give me on managing/monitoring the shrinkage as I'm soaking?

I think the most important question here is, do you have a 34" true waist (Where you want the jeans to sit) or is it really a bit larger?  I would just measure any pair of pants you have that are snug... but not tight and see what they come out at.

But, if you are really a 34" true waist and you've checked this all before - then yeah, a 34 would work, it is true waist 36... youll lose 1.5-2.5" depending how hot you soak it....  if you want it really snug to start, soak it in hotter water.

Hope this helps in some way...

If I've been wearing diff pairs of 31 APC NS for the past 2 years that fit great, should I go 32 or 33 in JB 201 raws?

EDIT: ~34.5-35 actual waist on my APCs and 12-12.5" thighs depending on where you measure.
