What is the difference between Momotaro and Momotaro by Japan Blue?

from my understanding momotaro and japan blue are both made by the same parent company, rampuya. japan blue are a little bit cheaper in price, but quality feels exactly the same to me. the momotaro x japan blue patches were made when the japan blue line started coming out to associate the two. but in my recent trips to denim shops in tokyo i haven't really seen any momotaro x japan blue patches anymore. japan blue jeans also have a blue inner stitching whereas momotaro have pink.

Rampuya is a mill, Japan Blue is both company and brandname. JB is owner of Collect and Rampuya, they release denim under two names, being Japan Blue and Momotaro.

JB is really different when compared to Momotaro, differences are in detailing, fabrics used, etc.

If you can afford a couple of bucks more, I would always advice to pick Momo over JB. JB's are a good deal though.

Momotaro x Blue Owl "Midnight Warrior" Tapered 15.7oz Raw Selvedge - Model BOM005 (Production #2)

The "Midnight Warrior" is Back! A second production run of the BOM005 just arrived and all sizes are fully stocked. We currently have about 50 pairs available and once this batch sells out, we may not produce this design again. Our 5th collaboration with Momotaro features a tapered version of the "Midnight Warrior" design from our first collaboration, the BOM001. It is a creative denim that uses a super dark indigo 15.7oz fabric with black stitching and details that makes the denim look black, yet will fade to a beautiful indigo full of variations and the black battle stripes.

Momotaro x Blue Owl "Midnight Warrior" Tapered 15.7oz Raw Selvedge - Model BOM005
* The "tapered" fit has never been produced by Momotaro. This fit has been borrowed from the Japan Blue line. The fit is slim in the top block, has a medium rise, enough room in the thigh to be comfortable, and begins to taper from the upper thigh all the way to the leg opening.
* 15.7oz sanforized raw selvedge
* Deep blue pure indigo denim using super-dense 6s yarn
* Deer skin patch
* Pink selvedge, pink interior thread - both representing the peach from the "Momotaro" folklore story.
* Going to Battle" stripes are a symbol of Japanese tradition representing honor and strength. The warrior stripes also represent the flag carried by "Momotaro" in the original folklore story.
* 100% Zimbabwe cotton
* 100% natural cotton thread
* Available in sizes 28-34, 36
* Made in Japan

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the BOM005, but I have a couple questions:

1) can I expect similar stretch to the vintage label denim (i.e. not much) ?

2) are there any pics floating around showing the fading properties?

Fabric is same as vintage label. Same stretch, same fading patterns. Plenty of photos of vintage label, should be a few BOM001 and BOM005 photos out there, someone will probably post.

hi everyone,

i started reading this thread, but did not find an exact answer to my question (not in the first 30 pages anyway satisfied.gif).

so my local dealer got a bunch of copper label slim tapered 201s (Raw). i tried a 36 and it fit comfortable around the waist, but was really saggy around the thighs. the 34 was a good snug fit around the waist and fit me very well around the thighs.

however, the dealer advised me to get the 36 because of the shrinkage, after i told him that i will probably machine wash them lukewarm, rather than soak them cold.

so i got that the waist will shrink around 1 inch (which will be alright), but my concern is that the thighs will still be too loose. does anybody have a bit of advice on this? will they actually get tighter around the thighs?

thanks in advance!

First of all, there are no Copper Labels Slim Straight 201's.

You either are talking about Copper Labels
, which are one wash and thus no soak necessary. Just buy the size that fits snug.

Otherwise you might be talking about Vintage Label 201's. TTS or downsize one, if you can handle it. Soak them and start wearing after they dried. It will shrink.

Do more squats to bulk up them legs! lol8[1].gif

I'd suggest going with 34 over 36. Cold soak (or at the very least cold wash) them. They will shrink when you wash them, but will stretch back (and maybe even past the original measurements by a little) when you wear them. I seriously doubt you'll see one inch of shrinkage though for the waist on them.

I would have to suggest the 34's as well, even with a bit of shrink after a month of wearing them hard they will be stretched back out....

Is no one reading? He mentions two pairs in one go.

Their description is not right. Old Blue is a fabric used on Copper Labels and is much lichter in colour in comparison to the shot that is pictured on the website.
Old Blue is indeed 14.7 oz, but comes in one wash only.

The picture on the website resembles a Vintage Label 201, including all details, like peek-a-boo selvage, pink inseam and pink ID for as far as I can see. The tag in the middle of the waistband is not authenthic for Vintage Label though, so I think this might be an aftermarket added feature (with the name of the shop for instance, much like the stamps Take 5 puts onto pocketbags) or it is a collab with Japan Blue.

If you are able to get detailshots, I can help you out which jean we are talking about (backpockets, patch, tab, negatiever).
