Unknown elite brands?

Hey dude,

I'm that guy and I think the photo makes them look slimmer than they actually are since it is a poor photo. I bought these at BiG and they fit right on at the waist (no sizing down) when I bought them and are not as slim as my APC New Standards. They don't taper as much too, which I like. They are definitely still a slim jean though. I am just a slim guy, so jeans in size 31 are going to look slim. They are far from skin tight, but maybe that isn't so apparent in the photo. I think they are a classic slim cut with a great rise that is higher than most "trendy" jeans and is more traditional.

I soaked mine before wearing to get shrinking done with, and I didn't lose any color. I did lose a lot of starch though and they softened up a bit. I wore them for a while and then soaked again because I thought they were still not shrunken as much as they should be, and I used really hot water the second time. They fit perfect now. In the second soak I was going more for losing a tiny bit of length.

They were hemmed at BiG with the expectation that they would shrink when soaked or washed, so until this was completely done, they were not the length that was planned, if you get what I mean.

The waist shrunk after soaking but stretched back out to where it should be after some wearing.

Ya, that's what I meant. You don't hear as much about Somets and Taros as you do say PBJs, Flatheads, etc.

Do they all come with the pink stitching?

Momotaros? i think 1/2 of 'em do from wut ive seen. yeah, they do make some of the best quality jeans.

many may disagree, but i think the design is too traditional.

Looks like a pretty good fit, Jbreen. I agree with what you're saying about the quality - they are absolutely suberb. As they soften up they become even more likeable (they should be so stiff right now). As for soaking, I never soaked mine. Mainly because I couldn't - they'd have been so tight I'd have had intestine coming our my ears. Now that they're worn in, I was considering it, but changed my mind. I prefer them to be as dark as possible initially and don't really see the need for a soak - I might save it up incase I spill something on them or get them really dirty. Otherwise I'll be washing around 6 months. The only downside to not soaking is that LOT of indigo will come out on your shoes and possibly your clothing. They'll also take longer to soften up. The indigo has washed out of my clothes pretty well though - the sneakers are white, so I'll just bleach them after a while. I met a Japanese student the other day and mentioned that my jeans were from Japan. She looked down at them, saw the pink inseam and said "OOOHHH!!! These are Momotaro's!! They're very famous in Japan! Did you buy them in Okayama?" Apparently they're known as some of the best jeans available over there. Anyways, this thread has convinced me to purchase a pair of 0201's. I'll wear them as a smart casual jean (more relaxed fit) and keep my 0701's for beating around on the street and at uni. I'm a Momotaro man for life. Edit: Are you able to measure the waist/thigh etc before you wear them too much? I'm interested to see whether you come up with the same measurements as BiG. For me, the 0701's were about 1" smaller in the waist and nearly 1" smaller in the thigh. I copied their measuring guide.

From what I've seen the best denim fabrics are samurai, oni, iron heart and sugarcane.

I wouldn't put somet in there. But in terms of slim cut somet is one of the best.

Denim News posted a new blog entry about Momotaro that is definitely worth looking at. It shows the hand loom in the store that's used on some of their jeans in operation, which I think it pretty cool.
