Could you be or would you want to be a Police Officer?

Well?

No to both. Potentially dangerous job that I have no interest in. Plus, it seems to be very in to vilify and blame the police these days which makes it even less appealing (in the sense that it seems somewhat "thankless" and I would be bitter). FWIW, I am a big fan of the police and those who risk their lives to serve.

I have considered forensics before. A street cop, no way.

go to the cops forum. yes, they have one in this vbulletin format.

they all love it and would do it again if they could.

from what i read, it is not all that hard of a job. lot of dead time and time to fool around while getting paid overtime and stuff.

at least that is what i got out of reading that forum a bit.

I'm considering CHP or applying my accounting background in some kind of detective/investigator capacity. I did a ride-along once with a city cop, and it seemed to be quite fun and interesting, but this was in a quiet suburb with little crime. In Compton or somewhere like that, maybe not so much. Ideally I'd be CHP in Orange County along the coast, just imagine getting to drive PCH every day and pull over fast cars The public image and stereotype of cops is what turns me off to the job, but it still remains one of my backup careers. I work at a golf course with a few members who are retired cops, and they all speak highly of it. Unfortunately, most seem to have more health problems/ aches and pains than those from other backgrounds. One has a serious limp from being shot.

Only if my days were full of slapstick comedy.

Shit yeah man, ever seen The Wire?

No. BTW, is having a $10 supercuts haircut a requirement to be a cop? I've never seen a cop with over a half inch of hair.

This is weird, because I briefly considered starting a similar thread earlier. I was going to ask whether there were any cops on here, and what their experiences were. I've considered it as a career before, but I would be more interested in being a detective or whatever than just a normal cop. I'm not sure how that all works though, whether you have to start as a cop and work your way up or what. If anyone has any experience or knows anyone who is a detective, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I like variety and problem-solving, but I'm not really sure what the job is actually like. It's ironic really, because as a rule I tend to distrust (to put it mildly) the police. But on the other hand, I think the police are necessary (though not to the degree that some people do) and someone has to do their jobs. Also, I think I'd be a better cop than a lot of the power-hungry assholes that the job attracts. I have many faults, but Neanderthalism is not one of them.

I have visited some cop vbulletin boards. I used to post on one but it was mostly right wing nutcases.

I have several friends who are cops and they say that they love their jobs. Some of them make about $50k to $100k per year. Not bad. Not all departments pay that but many do.

i agree it is definitely a job that attracts alot of guys who want to play out their power trip issue building up in them all the growing years.

No, I'd bust to many peoples heads open for being complete idiots. I don't really want to be shot at for pulling over a guy to tell him his brake light is burned out ether.
