With all the attention we have been paying to the beloved burger lately, I would like pay homage to the chicken wing. Where are everyone's favorite places to get wings? Cluck-U-Chicken Thermonuclear are my all-time favorite runners up - Detroit, MI - Union Street Rasta Wings Donnely's Shamrock - Peoria, IL Amici's - Athens, GA - XXX with Honey The Boundary - Chicago, IL - Devil Wings How do you like them ? Large, Breaded, I prefer the 2nd joint to the drumette What is your favorite recipe for sauce? 2 parts Franks or Louisiana to 1 part butter + white, black, cayenne peppers, a little garlic and onion powder, tobasco, liberal amounts of honey, a bit of worcestershire, and sometimes a little liquid smoke or smoked salt Favorite Beer to Drink w/ Wings Michelob Light, Great Lakes Dortmuncer, Yeungling Lager

I'm not a huge wings person, but I've always like Hooters' breaded wings. Some of my fondest wings memories came from Wing Zone in Hotlanta and their atomic, or something rather menacing, wings. I ate a dozen once, and never again.

I've yet to find excellent wings outside of Western New York. They are a source of great pride here, so most restaurants and bars take the time to do them well.

Not a huge wing person, but I've found I prefer the more crisp/fried wings, as opposed to the heavily breaded or ones with the soft skin. To that end, I enjoyed some from a place in Bethesda, MD called Wing Hub. The garlic parm, lemon pepper, and racing BBQ flavors were my favorites. A block over was a Hard Times Cafe and they grilled their wings so they usually ended up with an overwhelming smokey/burned taste. I think the only chain places I've tried wings at were Hooters, Wing Stop, and Buffalo Wild Wings, the latter two being better than the first.

I do make wings occassionally. They're usually deep fried, and the sauce is made from Frank's Red Hot, butter, sugar, pineable, and habanero peppers.

Country Sweet in Rochester NY, there large, breaded and served with a sweet and sour sauce. edit-i guess that was a fail because they aren't really a buffalo wing Anchor Bar has pretty good Buffalo Wings although I prefer the ones with a more sweet and spicy tilt

Are breaded wings considered buffalo wings? IMO, the best sauce comes from the source, anchor wing sauce. You can buy it online or find it at some grocery stores.

+1 but I have found a better source for wings that western ny, my WSM smoker. I use the recipe found here: http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/chicken8.html I finish the wings on the grill rather than fry them and add anchor sauce instead of the recipe's hot sauce. I make this recipe at a lot of our parties and its always a hit. One of my friends bought a smoker just so he could make these wings. And he's from western ny.

I am not a big fan of the chains, BW3's, Quaker Steak, etc. I have a local tavern here in the Cleveland area (Chesterland Tavern) that makes GIANT meaty delicious wings that are infinitely better then any I have had else where, and a place across the street from me in Columbus (Ohio Wings and Brew) with great deals and better wings then their neighbors (BW3s and Dominos). Is Cluck-U-Chickens worth ordering from? Never thought about trying them, they always looked like the standard campus crap spot

Breaded?!

I like ones that are served fiery red and make you sweat after the second bite. I'm not too discerning with my drink, because the wings usually overpower anything else by a long shot. But I do like Yuengling or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale with them. Also, if I'm using dipping sauce, it's gotta be bleu cheese. Ranch just doesn't do it.

I'm not sure the Cluck U in C-bus is around anymore. It was DIRTY as hell.. but the wings are incredible. I grew up near the original on the Rutgers campus. They have the best sauces I've ever had. You can order them online... I go for the Nuclear or Thermo Nuclear myself: http://www.clucku.com/sc/catalog/ind...649c5231e545f1 Where is the Chesterland Tavern? I"m going to be in Cleveland for a wedding next weekend and spending thursday night w/ my 'rents and a few college friends. Maybe I'll check it out. Not sure how long you have been in C-bus Cav, but when I was in school, (95-99) there was a Phi-Delt bartender at Not Al's Too (the downstairs one) that made free wings on Wednesday nights. They were soooo good. I'm glad you didn't pimp the Lizard (where I do tend to go when I'm in town... but it's just not noteworthy except for the beer list). For all the purists, I understand the appeal of the Anchor Bar, and I've never been there.. but I plan to go and enjoy it when I get a chance. But there's a whole big country out there and there are good wings everywhere.... I want to be able to find them when I travel, that's why I started this thread.

The Cluck U in Columbus moved to North Campus (near Hudson) from their old spot near 11th-12th, never tried it. The Chesterland Tavern is in the east suburbs about 10 minutes from Chagrin Falls, Gates Mills, Mayfield. The wings are very good, if you're in the area, they are magical. They also have some other "nicer meals" for the rents for like $10-25/entree; only things there that are incredibly special though are the wings Winking Lizard wings and food are average chain pub fare, they do have 30 cent wing nights, but still doesn't do anything special for me. If you're downtown, check out Lola's (a bit more expensive) or Momocho -- neither have wings though

If it's still there , you should go. I had been to that location, but I think even that one is gone (based on the list of locations on the Cluck U website), but if you remember the old location on 12th next to the Cornerstone (R.I.P. Beat the Clock Fridays), then you would have been there for free wings @ Not Al's Too.

My folks are in Solon, so I will be in that area. I'll try to make it over there.

Yeah.. even at 30c each, they are only good because of the beer variety. Quaker and Bw3 both better, and still only good in a pinch.
