Im comming out of university with a major in sociology, but also some background in business; so im really looking in a wider spectrum. Im hoping to land an entry level marketing job, but any type of social work or research is up my alley as well.

Really im just hoping my liberal-art degree gets me a job outside of ones the require the phrase "would you like fries with that?"

You don't have anything lined up?

You'll either have to work hard or prepare for

True.... thats why Im saving for 4 months without a job haha. Though Im part of the reserves, and If I need money, Ill join the local unit and get a few extra hours. Pretty decent pay actually, and in all probability better salary and benefits that any entry-level job Ill find.

Why don't you try getting a short-term class B tasking while you wait?

I was actually thinking about doing that, its just that I'll only being finishing up DP1 before hitting Toronto, so there may be a limited oppurtunity for me.

if you'll be traveling around the city, get a monthly metro pass. they're like $110+taxes, and the pass gets you discounts at most of toronto's major public attractions (ie: the science centre, the zoo -although the zoo is allt he way in fucking scarborough, and scarborough is faggotsauce-, among other places.)

should frequent redflagdeals.com if you're not aware of that site. check their hot deals section among others, can find deals on all sorts of shit all around the city. lot of the deals are primarily toronto, although you might see shit pop up fr om like vancouver or something.

after your rent, budget at least another $350 for travel, food, maybe eating out 1-2 times a week. Then add on howeve rmuch you think you'll be spending on other shit. Maybe you buy clothes are something (even though buying clothes here int he city is stupid as fuck, since you can get anything online for half the price that local shops charge you for it.)

hit up kensington market often. get food ont he cheap. and if you dont mind chinese food, the best spot to visit is king's noodle at spadina and dundas. order a plate of yang chow fried rice, which is a GIANT plate for like only 6.50!

hope that helps :P

if you're living near the UofT you can eat in chinatown everyday for cheap. and the food's awesome. others r posting that "better" food costs more in toronto; i guess we all have diff tastes, cause i think that's baloney. in fact i often think ther'es an inverse relationship between tastyness of food and price (for restaurants).

if you're at ryerson there's tons of good eats there too. a great somalian restaurant is around the corner.. oh yeah....

in other words the cost of living is fine. lots of cheap tasty food for uni students.
