Help/suggestions for a new suit in montreal or NYC

I've been looking to purchase my first true suit for a little while and I think I might pull the trigger soon. I've been doing some reading, but found the amount of info a bit overwhelming, so I'd appreciate some input.

I'm a college student, I'm 5'6 & 130lbs (lean & fit). Looking to purchase a versatile suit that I'll be wearing mostly to "formal" events such as weddings, conferences & different events for school. I'm looking for something with a slim and modern cut/look.

I live in montreal, but I'll be going to NYC/woodbury common outlets for 2-3 days in august. So I'm looking for suggestions on brands & places where I can look in either city, but preferably montreal, since I'll have more time to shop. I'm willing to spend up to maybe 1500$.

thank you!

I operate in NYC and my house style is more "Modern" but still rather English looking. My suits start at $2000 though so maybe a bit out of your price range.

A lot of people go to Paul Winston and Mr Ned. They seem to be more your price point but from what I have seen there default style is more "American". Having said that if you communicate specifically what you want and stick to it they could probably achieve the look you are going for.

I met Paul a few Weeks ago and he is a very nice guy. Maybe give him a call or visit him in Midtown.

thx! but is that for MTM? I don't think I'll have time to shop properly for anything MTM in NYC since I'll only be in New York for 2 days and 1 day at woodbury outlets, so it would have to be OTR.

However for montreal I'm open to suggestions for MTM or OTR

Have you tried going to stores and trying suits on? I'd start with that...

Montreal:
Michel Brisson (both locations)
Holt Renfrew
Harry Rosen
L'uomo

NYC:
Barneys
Bloomingdales
Saks

Three is enough for NYC, these places sell a shitload of suits.

These aren't necessarily my favourite stores but they offer a large selection

There are several stores for shopping in Montreal. For sure, Holt Renfrew and Harry Rosen are interesting places to purchase more expensive dress clothes. However, I believe that it may be relevant to spend less than 1500$ for a first suit, since it will give you a first idea about how comfortable a model is, how interesting a given style is for you, etc.

La Baie Downtown has a nice selection of suits in a wide range of price ("Le President" boutique has more expensive clothes). Simons is also a place to visit for young people who want a less conservative style than more traditional stores.

All these places are very close from each other, on Ste. Catherine street or around.

I heard that La Baie downtown does MTM for around 750... can you confirm that? I've been to the Simons downtown, took a quick look, but nothing really interested me, although back then I had a lower price limit..

Sorry. When you said you were looking for your first true suit I asumed you were talking about Bespoke.

You must be able to get decent MTM in Montreal for that price somewhere.

Good luck to you.
