I am interested, although I need to do some research in relation to whether this phone will be ok for Australia.

You will be able to use this in Australia, provided you jailbreak/unlock the phone. I just sold a 2g iPhone where I did this with the 3.0 operating system software. Takes about 5 minutes and pretty easy to do.
