Do you ever buy diamonds?
I and some partners fool around primarily with Gold but we sometimes buy Diamonds.
One of them is an Israeli importer that sells to many Houston stores. Both memo and direct, you know the routine. But sales by retail stores are way down so we market the stones more than usual.
All stones would be EGL or GIA certed and we don't bother with anything under S1 clarity, J color and always good to excellent make.
We'll always be at about 45% below Rap or more. For instance among others we have an EGL certed 3.15 Round Brilliant, S1 clarity, I color, stone with excellent make, no fluorescence, etc.
It Raps at $33,000 and we'll sell it at $16,500 ( obviously 50% below RAP ). This would be a representative deal.
Gold would be tougher logistically, but I'll throw this out. For physical sales of Gold, last week when Gold was at $1,057 an oz. we were buyers at $34,122.37 a kilo and sellers at $34,522.37. These are pretty good prices and I'd be interested in seeing if some of the East and West Coast big timers could beat them. We ourselves are always ready to be buyers or sellers if it makes sense.
BTW: The ring you sold was beautiful and there is a "Goodwill" premium attached to genuine Tiffany, Cartier, or DeBeers stuff. We get them occasionally and they sell like hotcakes. Just sold a DeBeers ring with the box, paperwork ( both the GIA cert, and the "DeBeers" package ). I won't say what we sold it for.
We don't know much about watches and don't deal in them at all.
