Otter, how much of the price is just because of the name? I might be in the market for a ring in the next few months but I'm way to poor to afford a tiffany ring.

^I would imagine that the diamond alone is well worth the asking price. And as the OP said, platinum is expensive.

Brian is right on in his assessment. For a diamond exactly like this, if you looked hard enough at classifieds, you might be able to find something a bit cheaper (maybe $500-$1000.00 max). Here, you are not paying a huge margin for the name. As I believe I said in the original post, you would pay 18-20K at Tiffany for this ring today. If you had another jeweler copy it, or make something similar with the same quality diamond, you could expect to pay $12,000.00 to $14,000.00.

right on. i really like the ring (so would the gf). unfortunately I'm in the AmeriCorps so I only make a whooping 10k/yr. It is a great deal that is for sure. I wish I had the funds. Can anything nice be found in the 3k range?
