Modern desks

What do you guys think of these vintage desks? Have you seen anything else similar? I'm looking for less expensive alternatives. Thanks.

They look cool, but like ascots pulling them off is not easy.

You mean as in how to integrate it to the rest of the decor?

I like them a lot for a living area. I would probably want something bigger for my study/office, but for a small writing desk I'd love to have one.

As for modern desk alternatives, every now and then West Elm comes up with something decent.

Nice desks. The German company THONET makes reproductions of tubular steel desks by Marcel Breuer.

The one you posted is more like this one designed by Piero Bottoni in the 1930s. Reproduction made by Zanotta.

LOL -- Hmm, yes THONET is an expensive manufacturer. The German THONET is a separate company from the US Thonet. The Austrian Thonet is now owned by the Italian company Poltrona Frau. The Thonet company has a long history, it had factories in Austria, Germany, Poland, France, and the USA, it was broken-up just prior to WW2. The Thonet family is still connected with the German Thonet company.

It seems that Unica can build this for about $4600. http://www.unicahome.com/p24373/zano...o-bottoni.html Why is all this furniture stuff so expensive? BTW thanks for your help hypersonic. It is amazing the kind of expertise you find on this board.

Srsly, 14k for a metal desk?
Yeah, that's a little absurd.

I'd look into having one custom made first. I would probably try and build one myself.

Many vintage desks are paper oriented -- with small workspaces not suitable for a laptop, binders, other papers, etc. If size is a consideration I'd look carefully at the dimensions, as well as how wide a chair + arms can be to fit under the desk.

I forgot how much I like this old Bauhaus furniture. It still looks very stylish.

OP desk seems very nice.

I personally love the Nelson desk and chair. That's what we have in our home office corner. Not expensive either.

Apparently the list price for these are about $11k to 16k, but I was offered 40% off list. Which is still quite insanely expensive.
