A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Wednesday, you can shout any question down that well, and you'll be told the answer" .
The stranger shouts down several questions, and all are answered. The stranger is impressed, and after thinking a minute he shouts down: "Why not on Wednesday?" and the voice from in the well shouts back "Because on Wednesday, it's your day in the well".
I've been itching to do this for some time now, but I wanted to wait until we completed our site relaunch before I made this. I know that style forum is probably the LAST place on the internet that there are going to be many sports bettors, but hey I like purple label just as much as I like bankroll optimization so if I'm there maybe someone else is too?
Briefly about me: I graduated from Cal in '08, and I'm going to Stanford for b-school in the Fall of '10 so I've just been using these two intermediary years to live the dream and chill out in SF and do things that I love. I've been playing about 30 hours of poker per week since I graduated, which I cranked up to about 40 this summer where I spent a few weeks in Vegas playing in tournaments (WSOP, Bellagio Cup, etc). I worked at a really sick social networking / betting startup called Betable.com from September until March, and I've been working for Dr. Bob since then.
Dr. Bob ( http://www.drbobsports.com ) is arguably the most famous sports better in the modern era, and it's pretty sick to help him out and get to see how all of his math models and stuff work. I'm helping him with his data, doing PR and marketing stuff and just finished redesigning his website.
So anyway, the new site is up and I encourage you to check it out. There's a ton of free info and analysis on there during the season, and I wrote I hope is the most comprehensive collection of sports betting essays available online: http://www.drbobsports.com/essays.cfm?cat=0 . If you guys want to check them out, please do, and obviously holler at me if you find any typos or whatever.
Other than that, this thread is basically just for chatter so I welcome all questions that you have about Bob, the industry, online books, Vegas or whatever. Have it at!
