disappointed with nudie

So I finally managed to try on some Nudie regular ralphs and bootcut Olas. I was disappointed.

The bootcut olas are not bootcut. They are a low rise, slim through seat and thigh, with fairly narrow straight legs, and fairly small leg openings. Not a bad jean, but not something you can get over real boots. The leg opening was actually quite similar to 501s.\\

The regular ralphs are very large, with loose seat and high, and actually have much larger leg openings than bootcut olas. the ralphs are more bootcut than the olas. the rise on the ralph is also quite long, so it will come up to your navel.

given how loose the ralphs are, i cannot imagine how they would be fun jeans to break in, or how they would become a "second skin" through use. Jeans that are a little bit tighter stretch out and fit you better, but jeans that start baggy --- they just kind of stay baggy. And yes, I tried going a size down on the Ralphs -- they are just cut baggy (with a huge anti-fit/nappy ass).

I personally like my RRDS loose, but different strokes, right? If you want a tighter fit, definitely size down on the RRDS. They are meant to have a bit of an antifit (thus the lower yoke and low back pockets) with a slightly dropped crotch, so if you don't like the look, you may want to look to a different cut or even brand. Yes, the Bootcut Olas are misnamed - they are much more of a straightleg than the RRs. It sounds like what you are looking for are Flare Glenns, which I believe to be discontinued, but Traffic in LA (Beverly Center), or maybe HTC, or maybe DenimBar may still have some.

What exactly did you expect?

And yes, the RR are cut quite lose. Try to think of them as an unpdated/modern version of a classic jeans like the 501.

Honestly, that's not been my experience with the Ralfs at all. In my waist size--i.e. they buttoned perfectly and were even just a slight bit loose around the waist when I bought them, before any stretching occured--they still were only very slightly loose around my thighs. The seat isn't particularly loose for me, either, though as the waist has stretched, the jeans ride lower, so there's just a bit of an antifit now. And at 6'1" and a slim-but-fairly-muscular 165lbs, it's not like I have huge thighs or anything. I think that, as with anything, the way the Ralfs, Olas, etc fit you will be just as much a function of your body as it is the cut of the jeans. God knows there are a million brands out there to try, even with dry denim, so if Nudie doesn't cut jeans to fit your body type, I'm sure someone else will.

I totally agree. I love Nudies. I am also 6'1" and i love my RR. They look great on me and they fit nice. I went 1 size down from my regular size though because i knew they were gonna stretch a lot.

But there are many jeans companies around and you have to find which ones are the best for your body. I personally look weird in the few models of Earnest Sewn's i tried on. Dont look at the name of the brand, look for the best fit. You will be less disapointed that way

Weird. I am 6' even (155 pounds) and I've got 30/32 RRDS. The fit was VERY tight at first, but as we know, dry denim stretches----wish I'd sized down. I am tugging pretty hard, but I cannot get the waistband to my navel. Ouch.

Saucemaster---I'm in Philly, too, and born the same year. And we've got the same jeans. Let us never be in the same place at the same time, lest we tear the fabric of the space/time continuum.

I've still never seen anyone else in Philly wearing Nudies, so we're probably okay for now. Now if I do, though, I'm gonna be wondering.... Do you live in Center City?

Hmm I've seen one guy around City Hall wearing them a couple of times - but I wasn't wearing mine at the same time.

i saw a girl in the Fairmount Whole Foods with Flare Glenns. the gent that cuts my hair has a pair of slim jims. but that's about it.

My experiences with the RRDS. I sized down two sizes (31 to 29). When I first got them, I could not get them on. Seriously, I couldn't even button ONE button because they were so tight. After a few minutes of furious effort, I was finally able to. First few wears were a pain because these things were painted on. For a few days I thought they were way too small and tight (not baggy at all). I was positive I should've gotten a 30". Over the next few weeks, they grew considerably and loosened up 1-2 sizes from original. Now, I'd say they fit perfectly. The rise is high in the back, but somewhat low in the front (I would have to get castrated to pull them up to my navel, seriously it's not possible with my pair). No saggy crotch here. No saggy seat. Everything fits where it's supposed to. For a baggier fit I coulda went for a size 30 (1 size down) but I like the way it looks now. Did you try on a washed or dry pair of RR?

I'm going to say it once more because it deserves repeating. IF YOU BUY RR DS EXPECT THEM TO GROW A LOT! If you size properly, they will look good! They will mold to your body eventually and you'll get a good fit (in my case the thighs were tight but loosened up).

I think of them as somewhat like New Standards this way (though they take longer to stretch, and in my experience don't stretch as much). They're a very versatile jean that can be worn in a number of different ways. I actually have a pair of RRDS in 29x34, and a pair of RRDG (thanks, Denimbar!) in 31x34. I love 'em both.

i stayed away from Olas for a long time because I thought they were bootcut, which it turns out they really arent, now they've become one of my fave pairs of jeans.

Actually, you would have gotten the same results if you'd just sized down one, or perhaps, because they were so tight to begin with, not at all. If the jeans are even slightly snug to begin with, they will only stretch to a size that will accomodate you. If they are not snug to begin with, they will definitely stretch out to become relaxed, even loose. However, the first point is the more pertinent. You don't need to size most brands, excepting APC's, down more than one size to get a fitted jean after repeated wearing.

I think that both Brian (who likes fitted jeans) and I (who like either tight but anti-fit jeans or, more commonly, loose jeans) agree on this point. I think that this question has actually been beaten to death.
