Canada Goose - Page 47

Yeah, I sold both the Manitoba and Constable because they didn't fit as well as I'd hoped. I'm looking to pick up a slimmer-fitting CG jacket if the price is right.

With a sweater, suit, hoody, or any type of layer, it is the perfect size. Both the regular and slim fits are TTS. That's coming from Canada Goose, not me.
I think your problem is that you don't really plan on layering much under the coat itself. I had a Medium Chateau and it would have been just fine had I planned on wearing light layers under the coat at all times (essentially what you plan on doing). But I layer in the winter, so Medium wasn't going to cut it for me.
I'd like to know what model exactly you tried on that you felt was too tight in Medium (and what you were wearing when you tried the coat on). What's your body type? If you have a little bit of a gut (or if you are really muscular) then the slim fit coats might not be a great fit for you. They are ideal fit wise for people with slim or athletic builds.
While you probably won't agree, the Large would suit you fine (Ontario or Chateau) if you were going to layer. But seeing as you aren't, you will be all set in a Medium in whatever you opt for (as long as it's not an Expedition or Heli-Arctic).

I'll agree that I'm probably a medium in the Ontario, and most likely a Medium in the Chateau.  In regards to build I have the athletic, swimmers build with larger shoulders and lats.  By my teens and 20's standards I have a "little bit of a gut" but people still want to feed me a sandwich to fatten me up.  I've always kept my weight within 4 pounds +/- of my younger always working out standard of 172.  I still have to buy athletic cut shirts and suits, or else have them extensively tailored.

The Large in Ontario is not even close.  I can layer a base layer, fleece layer, sweater layer, jacket layer, down vest (or girlfriend) under it and still have room to spare.  The only possibilities in my mind is this coat was mislabeled, or Quality Control was poor, or the Ontario simply fits huge, or I have a fake. Given your advice and the reputation of CG for quality, I'm thinking mislabeled.  I bought from a CG authorized web retailer so I don't think I have a fake.  Thank you for your advice, it helps me gain confidence that I'm not wasting my time ordering another.

@NerdBird, In regards to TNF comments, I know its a completely different league from most everything else here, but people always want to know what you are getting for your money.  With free shipping in return and lifetime satisfaction policies, I'll know for sure and be able to answer that question.  If I could see these all locally I'd know.  Thanks again for the post, the model/warmth/sizing/TTF was a great summation of the prior 45 pages of posts in regards to best advice on fit.

Question for the group, is it "fair" to a retailer to order both sizes of a relatively hard to find product and return the one that does not fit?  On the one hand, it seems reasonable to me as a consumer, on the other it ties up their merchandise for a week +/- and I don't think they can sell returns as new.

If I was home I'd take a photo of myself in the Ontario to show you how it fits on me. But I'm on location for potentially 4 weeks or more so it's a moot point. Seeing that we have similar builds and measurements, I'm totally perplexed by your Ontario. I'm starting to believe that your coat is mislabeled.

With respect to purchasing two sizes from an online retailer, I say go for it. I know for a fact that my Medium Chateau was sold to someone else after I returned it to the online retailer. How? Because they were sold out of Medium Chateau's and the day they received my returned Chateau (I had tracking on the returned coat) the Medium showed up back on their website. I'm pretty confident online retailers do in fact resell your returned item as long as it's still in new condition with all the tags attached, etc.

I'd like to pick up a Small Chateau for my bro if prices drop when it's off season, so I'd appreciate any heads up when the time comes!

Black, or charcoal grey. I have this post on my subscription list, so I'll be able to keep track if it comes up.

But you also seem to be pretty on the ball with CG, so if you ever see it come up, a PM would be awesome smile.gif

In the interest of full disclosure on the sizing discussion, I took some measurements.  Seems my body has changed a bit since I've been working more core and legs exercises and less all upper body and getting older :(

Still 5'10", Still 175, 43" Chest, 36" waist, 36" at the navel belly.

I took a few armpit-to-armpit measurements of coats that fit and those that don't in my house:

Don't fit much too large

XL Old Navy Rain Parka received as gift and never worn since it looks like a tent on me:  26.5"

Large Canada Goose Ontario: 26.5"

Fit well as Jacket allowing normal layering beneath

Large Joseph A Banks Wool Winter 3/4ths Coat <-- designed for use over structured dress jackets so I allow for some extra room: 25.5"

'42' Barbour Classic Beaufort: 25"

Large Nike Golf Storm Fit rain jacket: 25"

Medium Gap Down Vest: 24.5"

Fits without more than 1 layer beneath or as a layer

Medium Nike ACG Fleece Jacket: 24"

Medium The North Face Apex Elevation: 23.5"

'44' Vanson Motorcycle Jacket: 23" <---tight fit as truly protective motorcycle leathers are supposed to be

Based on this, it looks like I'll be happiest with something in the 25" range.  If people who are fortunate enough to have various CG models would post the model, size, and flat armpit-to-armpit measurement it might really help those in my situation.

I'll PM you if I come across a Small in those colors. My only concern is that you are in Canada. My gut says it will be (potentially) easier to find a Chateau from an American retailer versus Canadian because CG isn't as popular in the States. Plus if I find one from a US retailer, I don't know what the story is with shipping and/or duties. Regardless if I see something I'll let you know.

I didn't get charged duties when ordering from contextclothing.com. I think you can also fill out some paperwork to get a refund on any duties charged since the product was made in Canada.

After wearing my Canada Goose Chilliwack Merino Wool parka, I can see why it got discontinued. It attracts hairs like crazy.

Other than that, its very warm. Considering it cost $700 retail, I'm happy with mine.  I could gone with "Large" but the "Extra Large" appears to be a perfect fit with my 42" chest and over layers. I'm 5'7" 150 and on the slim side.

That's good to learn. I remember some American SF members getting hit with an international fee of some sort on their CC with respect to their Ssense order.

Its been my experience that as long as you order for personal use, Customs generally doesn't charge duty. But they do on non-clothing merchandise.

That sounds awesome. We can work something out if you do find one!
