Can wingtips only be worn casually? I have a light pinstripe, charcoal suit that I wore with them and received positive feedback. I don't like to follow everybody's rules all of the time but I don't want to look like an idiot neither. Just need a few suggestions. I bought the Cole Haan Rivington wingtips in the british tan because they feel great on my feet as well. Here's a pic of what they look like.

Should've gotten different shoes. Nice brown wingtips with a good solid navy MTM/bespoke suit are pretty steezy.

I wear walnut Bel Air wingtips with navy slacks all the time. I think they'd look good with a navy suit, too.

? Not that yours are dark, but I thought nice, dark brown wingtips should only be worn with suits...

There are those who hold that the wingtip is inherently a casual style.

However, in the USA, at least, wingtips and suits are like ham and eggs, vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup.

Your shoes are bluchers. Some would argue that because they are bluchers, they are inappropriate with suits.

Outside of forumland, nobody will give a damn.

Frankly, I think they would look fine with a suit in navy or most shades of gray.

The blucher/balmoral distinction is a good point.

Agreed. Also, congratulations on your Cole Haans, they are a nice looking wingtip. Maybe in a future purchase you may consider Allen Edmonds or Alden. You'll never regret it.

Speaking academically, it's not that were inappropriate with suits, by the old rules, but more that they were inappropriate with city suits / business suits (as opposed to tweed suits, etc). No?

I wear my charcoal multistripe suit with a set of burnished Cordovan Wingtips from Cole Haan. They look more like a reddish brown, tinged with burgundy. I can't really explain it and will throw some pics on here when I can. Nobody will really care, to be honest. The shoes look great, and they're gonna look great with any Navy or Grey suit.

I wear wingtips all the time with my suits. In fact, I'm wearing a pair of burgundy wings right now with my gray herringbone suit. I think in the US you can get away with wingtips and suits with no problem. I'm sure a majority of Americans think wingtips are more "dressy" than a captoe anyway.

I think this is generally true.

I default to brown wingtips with a navy or gray suit. I also have the above Cole Haan in the "loaxford". It was a pre-SF purchase that I apparently overpaid for, but they look and fit great and I intend to "get my money's worth" before upgrading.

+1

I wouldn't hesitate to wear wingtips with a suit.

Thanks for the replies everybody! This site has taken over my life... unfortunately. But I will stick to my own flavor and not just imitate what I see on here. I LOVE the Bel-Airs! As long as they feel good on the feet I will make that purchase. I find it attractive to match tones, but contrast and accents interest me even more! Got to love the forums..
