i think the employee is cool though. he manned up.

not the fact he faced the robber up and chased him down (wouldnt advise it)

but the fact that he accepted the consequences like a man.

I had a buddy who, before being shipped to Iraq, worked as security in a ghetto mall south of San Diego which was known to have its significant share of cholos. These guys would shoplift, no fail, at JC Pennys, Mervyn's and the like. My buddy would stretch when he started each shift knowing he was going to throw down at least once with these cholos because whenever they got caught and were confronted outside of the store, these guys would posture up and sometimes remove their shirts looking to fight.

While of course it isn't mall policy to fight these guys, any opportunity that presented itself that he had to deal with a belligerent shoplifter, he would scuffle until he knocked out or subdued one of these guys, or his other security guard buddies came to reinforce or just called the cops. He enjoyed it, especially since, notwithstanding close calls, he prevailed in each encounter. Luckily none of these guys had weapons (except for one cholo, but that's another story).

Apparently his favorite move was sidemounting these guys on the ground, cocking his knee back as far as he could and throwing a huge knee to the side of their heads. That usually ended it.

^ I once saw a 250+ lb security guard that looked like a linebacker tackle a young shoplifter in a mall once. It was pretty awesome.
