Has anyone here had experience with a "lateral release" (for patella mis-alignment) and can shed light on recovery/rehab time; and whether you were ever able to resume leg workouts like running, squatting, etc?

If this is an anthropometric disorder it may be beneficial. If you got an acute case of patellar tendinitis and want it to go away quickly, I would definitely advise against orthopaedic surgery...

Thanks. Unfortunately it is an anthropometric problem. I've gotten a second opinion from a conservative, anti-surgery doctor who also said I should get the lateral release done after looking at my x-rays.

I had it years ago and was able to return to sports. The surgery was a godsend, and the recovery wasn't bad as orthopedics surgeries go.
