There's quite a few decent-looking sweats around at the moment. Joe McCoy's maybe, if you want an old school repro. EPLA are doing hoodies too if you want something less rigorously heritage.

My gym bag is by Briefing, US-made, heavy-duty nylon, I think they make for the military so it's fairly hefty stuff.

[edit] quick check, it's the "gym wire bag"

Kapital!
I have it in navy, bought it over 7 years ago and it is still one my favorite piece of clothing. The cut is perfect, slim and slouchy at the same time, and that massive hood is fantastic.
Also, it says SURF in big letters and that alone is enough to buy one.

I have a grey zip up hoodie from Strike Gold. Truth be told, I think it was a waste of money, but FWIW, denimheads seem to highly regard it.

Iron Heart also makes one.

Also, these Army duffles aren't super-cutting edge or anything, but they go for $17 on eBay and I think would work well for a gym bag

Could always go SW&D 2000-and-late style and go with Wings + Horns. They're not specifically water-resistant, but they're decent, slim-fitting, and less expensive than the repro brands (particularly on sale, which is pretty common).

Unrelated: Did Adidas release a black/black Stan Smith for women during the latest reboot? The only women's Stan Smiths I can find are the customizable ones on the Adidas website, and it seems a little silly to pay extra just to pick the colors if the colorway in question is already available somewhere as a standard option.

I'd check out aether for hoodies...the hoodie I bought from them has been excellent and I know they do more technical stuff as well (wrt the rain protection)

Gustin has some nice duffles.

Geller seconds is another nice hoodie option. The terry in these is on the lighter side because they are the S/S versions, but super soft and really nice drape. Good deal at East Dane.

If you want a classic cotton blend hoodie you're not going to get much rain protection. You're more likely to find that in some sort of softshell jacket--full REI/Patagonia territory.

This Pedaled softshell has been tempting me as an alternative to the standard outdoor brands, and it's on deep sale at East Dane. Oh fuck I just talked myself into it.

Unbel should buy a cotton hoodie and spray Allen Edmonds' Suede Protector all over it.

That's exactly the face I make when I wear it
