cool man. glad to hear you like it. always makes me happy because most people I know think it's excruciatingly boring. haha.

this brand Fear of God keeps getting more and more attention. seems like a mishmash of stuff that's already out there, like Geller + Rick + old Number Nine, but I hear the make is alright. i dunno. hard to get excited about anything new lately. only want old stuff for some reason.

just another garbage brand peddling flavor of the month ripoffs to undiscerning morons with too much money

haha. i was trying to be a little more generous.

on a different note it's crazy how many places are carrying haider ackermann. h lorenzo to mr porter and everyone in between.

Just checked out the Fear of God webshop. Yup, absolutely nothing of interest. But at the same time, the brand's existence is kinda inspirational, no? It's another sign that the internet has removed many of the barriers preventing motivated folks from getting into this menswear game. Like, for every Fear of God, you see brands like Second Layer who have, you know, actual ideas. What a time to be alive rite

I don't see anything inspirational in the frantic multiplication of brands whose business model is wholly predicated on the most transparent kind of intellectual larceny, consumers' ignorance and a well-oiled hype machine. If anything, the truly interesting voice is still at risk of being drowned out by the noise. Second Layer's approach might appear more respectable and less of a blatant cash grab but it's still fundamentally the same trite and very literal regurgitation of items and looks seen elsewhere (everywhere) before.

Mine was successful for different reasons, but I did not make it to uniqlo.

Hoping I can pick up some dress shirts in the boston pop up!

I'm headed to Mexico City tomorrow, and am trying to decide whether to pack tees/jeans/chucks to not stand out, or linen buttondowns/chinos/Aldens. I'll mostly be in Zocalo and Bosque de Chapultepec with the rest of the tourists for a couple of days, but I will be staying in the DF.

Anyone in Chicago near rush medical center that wants to house me for a month. I can throw rent money your way

Is your K&R policy up to date?

I assume you mean Rush Medical Center? You may want to be more clear about that, or else you might spend your nights cursing the thousands of drunken suburbanites stumbling out of Mother's.

Neither do I. I hope that's not what you interpreted my post to mean rolleyes.gif

Everything is at risk of being drowned out by noise. That's the internet for you. Look at all the flavor-of-the-month companies that don't succeed. On the other hand, look at brands like Peir Wu that manage to rack up a small but dedicated fan base despite not producing a single graphic tee or flannel shirt. It's a bit alarmist to think cool ideas are inherently more likely to get lost in a sea of hype-beasting.

I think they're slightly more original than that. But feel free to choose a more inspired fledgling brand if you want-- the originality of Second Layer wasn't the main point of my post

To me the unoriginality of Fear of God/Second Layer seems like a young artist finding his/her voice (seems like most start out as a mix of their influences and then blend it into their own identity/style) but maybe I'm an optimist.
