some skate shop wanted to pay me $8 an hour to model for their awful catalog (I didn't do it)

I went to a muji model audition with two of my friends for fun, they both got selected, I got cut for being too short (I'm 179cm, cutoff was 180cm)... they got paid decently and swagged out with muji beddings and blankets and whatnot, sounded fun..

I was stopped by some guy at Shibuya crossing last year asking me if I lived in Japan and wanted to model. Had to let him down and know I was just there to chill out and drink 100yen store jar sake.

I'd totally be down to model, provided it involved clothing that I didn't specifically find distasteful. Unfortunately, I've gradually come to accept that

a) I don't live in New York
b) I photograph somewhat awkwardly
c) I straddle the uncomfortable line between 'regular good-looking guy' and 'guy with visible scars and tattoos'.

edit: forgot to add:

d) I'm old.

My buddy writes for models.com and is friends with a lot of runway models. They're all pretty nice and down to earth but a lot of them are frighteningly young.

yeah they're usually like 18 or 19...some are like just out of college. very few are in their mid 20s.

This is generous. Female runway models are often 14-17.

I got scouted a few times many moons ago and eventually went in and ended up signing a contract of some sort with a local agency. Didn't end up getting placed internationally and that was the end of that. It was a weird world from what I saw, but I wish I took it more seriously at the time because it could have led to some awesome opportunities. Wasn't into clothes at all at that point, but my buddy's brother was a model and I knew he walked for Burberry and whatnot for $$$ (didn't know what Burberry was at the time), so that sounded pretty cool.

Probably too old to give it a go now (28), so maybe I will be a senior citizen model someday modelling for Depends and shit. That'd be cool too.

You probably didn't miss much..

I roomed with a guy who walked for Dior and another that walked for RO last year. I was surprised to find that a company as big as Dior was horrible with paying their models. Maybe it's because they are a big company and can lawyer up and find loopholes.
From what I recall they were stalling on the payments and if he quit to sign with another label (Dior had exclusivity) then the payment would be void. ..something like that

Isn't that mostly up to the agency that he signed with not DH? I dunno.

I don't know how it works really redface.gif
Just saying that models don't get treated that well, unless they are big time
