(Tried "coloring" an all-black fit with just a pencil the other day, which looked absolutely awful.

Any ideas for how I'd go about to "color" the above picture to be somewhat representative of the real picture?)

No but for serious, you can shade/color it with just a pencil if you want. A good idea is to forget the photo, pick tones for each element in the picture - jacket is light grey, shirt is dark, jeans are medium grey, head is white. That way you clarify the shapes and get some contrast despite working from an all black outfit.
edit: also, shade with the flat side of the pencil to avoid that scratchy look.

These drawing make me want a SF-based remake of the Take Me On video by A-ha.

Noob, where is your avatar from? It's seems familiar, but cannot quite place it.

Do you have a background in Chinese watercolors? I do, and our line technique is nearly identical and very stylized.

@biggskip, that's Simon from Misfits, starring in Game of Thrones, taunting a newly - de-penised Theon Greyjoy with his sausage. He has no background in Chinese watercolor technique.

No, I wish though. Chinese watercolors are fantastic. I just observed classical 2D animation and figure drawing.

I tried quoting the people who made bag suggestions, and for whatever reason it didn't carry over. Anyway, much appreciated MOK et al.
