But for a recent college grad or someone who's still in college,
wearing a black suit to an interview is something that is
not too huge of a deal, right?

It's really not a huge deal, but it does show that you are green and don't really know what you are doing. The recommendation to wear a navy or charcoal grey suit is pretty standard if you ask for any advice at all. But really, when you get to be a little older (and I am a pretty young 35) anyone 21 years old looks and sounds young.

The important thing is to be comfortable in whatever you are wearing. If you can avoid buying a new suit, do so. An old suit is invariably more psychologically comfortable unless it is truly terrible. if you must get something new, I recommend wearing it around the house for a while (odd situation, to change into a suit upon getting home) to break it in.

I just spent the last five or six pages going through this thinking it was the WAYWT Discussion thread and wondering where all of the god damn pictures were.

Re: the black suit thing.

There's this older student at my university who likes to promote himself as a successful businessman, but he's really just had a lot of failed half-baked media-related projects funded through his trust fund. He's 27 and looks down on the average college student. He wears a suit to school almost every day because he tries to convey this businessman image. Anyway, it's always an ill-fitting black suit. He sucks.

Tell him to come meet all the Emory business students. He'll feel right at home with hundreds of other clones around him.

A quote from someone at a party the other night; "I didn't know Louis Vuitton made ecstasy."

Would love a Jil MTM suit. Going to do that when I go to NY.

I've been eyeing some Crockett&Jones as well, and also several less known, well made, mid-tier Italian brands that often pop up for cheap on Yoox, and just got a pair of Mantellassi captoes.
So true, same for me this season. Pretty much first half of the year for me is footwear, got my eyes on around 6-7 pairs of Crockett and Jones, some new Guidi boots and maybe some CP lows, in light grey / dark grey. Need good MTM suits and coats as well, when I go to HK. I'll go see Chan, as that's probably the best I can do in the area (Australia) First will probably be a few pairs of pants, a blazer and two odd coats. You guys should see the crazy prices here in Australia. Went looking for some nice T's yesterday, maybe a slim twisted hem or a colourblock. Spoke to one guy who was all over CoN's dick, told him that it's way too derivative. Midmarket derivative garbage comes in at like 190 AUD, man you can kop so much for that online. Ah well. Need to get Jet or Kunky to get me some.

Yeah, people in business suits make me a little suspicious too. I automatically think that they are going to want to "optimize" something, or implement some unnecessary and unworkable system, or define some "metrics". An obviously fashion suit doesn't set off my spider sense the same way.

Hear hear. I'm in engineering, and of course this is a generalization, but I've noticed that people who try to convey a certain business aura about them in the way they dress are hiding some real skill deficiencies. Heh heh on optiziming and metrics, too.

Seriously thinking about this 'MC for no reason all the time concept' concept... bespoke suit and shirt, maybe a custom made tie, some nice shoes, and a nice watch, everyday. For drinking beer at the pub. Maybe I'll even cut my hair.

^^Sell me your MMM leather then.

i am thinking the exact opposite. got ride of all suits except 1 and wear jeans, a leather and a ratty tee everyday. even buying a new pair of rick sneakers so i dress like a 17 year old all the time.

sounds like a concept for a book. like those people who don't use toilet paper for a year or whatever and then write about it

Yeah, I often have this idea of just getting 4 grey suits, like 15 white dress shirts and a few pairs of shoes/boots and only wear that everyday along with 2 overcoats. In fact I could do it with my current wardrobe.

I am leaving in 4 hrs and have to pack and I keep thinking I should change what I put in the fucking bag.
