Would you ever go to a birthday party without knowing anyone but the birthday girl, especially when all her friends are older and infinitely cooler than you are?

losing count of how many times this happens to me.

Tough question, but like any of these situations you prob won't regret that you go, while you could regret staying home.

I often think its more fun to go to parties / go out to places where I don't know people than go somewhere where I know everyone. The latter has a tendency to bore me. Of course, its always good to know someone there if you're not in your most sociable mood.

I mean, if she wants you there and the others are cool people, why not?
Depends on your definition of cool though I guess, like if they're assholes that do cool things, or if they are genuinely cool people

I'd probably go if I wanted to go to a party that night.

No idea, but there is a pretty strong correlation between MCAT scores and performance in medical school, including soft measures like bedside manner. These studies have been cited in articles about discrimination against Asian med school applicants in the admissions process, which have skewed more towards "extracurricular" activities, as if these have a particular bearing on how good a doctor an applicant is likely to be.

Interesting, I had heard that about organic Chemicistry grade.

I mean I've always done really well on tests without much studying but it never really feels like a meaningful accomplishment. Just feels like another thing you have to check off

correlation is not causation

As modeler, this is the first thing I emphasize. That said, a strong correlation one way and a lack of correlation another way, in a manner that contradicts accepted knowledge, is definitely cause to re-examine that accepted knowledge. The accepted narrative could be fundamentally flawed.

For example, the ability to focus intensely on a singular goal may be more important than the ability to maintain diverse interests as a measure of who would be a better physician.

so, you're asking if you should go to a party where there will be an assortment of cool women you don't know but have a mutual friend in common with

how is this a question?
