Depends on the model. I have one pair of backzips that's kind of bulbous and another that's actually somewhat sleek, at least by comparison. It's in more of a balmoral style, if that term can even be applied to shoes.
FWIW, I have this exact hat. It doesn't sit flush against your head, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it voluminous (unless I have a massive head and just haven't realized it yet). The crinkle effect is pretty nice, though, and it's comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time. It's pretty thin, though, and not all that warm in actual cold weather (as in, below freezing, probably less of an issue in the Bay Area).

Did you catch them on the Gold Sounds not-actually-a-reunion tour? They broke up my senior year of high school, so I'd pretty much resigned myself to never seeing them live. It was kinda like seeing the Jicks playing the songs you actually wanted to hear. Still pretty great, though.
