yeah, road. one of them just put together a $14k bike, from what i understand.

That is certainly possible, but it literally represents buying the most expensive everything currently available: frame, parts, wheels, etc, etc. I'm not exaggerating; you'd have to work hard to spend that much on a bike.

Also, if someone is on a national level olympic team for a 1st world company, they are also very likely already a rider for a team w/ solid bike sponsorship, so they'd be getting sweet equipment for free (or massively discounted). On the other hand, I used to work a very nice bike shop, and there are plenty of people of the high income variety who are happy to spend $8-10k on a bike.

yah e0d said he "built" a $14k bike, not "bought."

5-6 hour rides are the best biggrin.gif

an important distinction!

today's ride was 3 hrs, 40 deg. w/ some intermittent showers. gross, but also awesome. Portland winter riding tests your resolve sometimes.

Is anyone else incredibly excited about Dover St Market NYC?   The London store is my favorite retail experience ever - I love the way it's (dis)organized and the serendipitous discovery process that comes with it.    I'm really psyched

Same. A friend will be one of the floor managers too, which is nice. It'll be cool to check out some of the harder to find brands they'll be carrying.

Everything's flipping expensive and the store layout makes no sense
It's like being in a suburban shopping mall designed by Frank Gehry filled with nothing but Paul Harden and Visvim

lol. i hope the new york store has a cafe as nice as the one in london, that's become a favourite spot to stop off for a scone. hardly anyone seems to know about it.

I like my Guidi 995's, but their back/sidezips are too bulky IMO.

Depends on the model. I have one pair of backzips that's kind of bulbous and another that's actually somewhat sleek, at least by comparison. It's in more of a balmoral style, if that term can even be applied to shoes.

FWIW, I have this exact hat. It doesn't sit flush against your head, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it voluminous (unless I have a massive head and just haven't realized it yet). The crinkle effect is pretty nice, though, and it's comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time. It's pretty thin, though, and not all that warm in actual cold weather (as in, below freezing, probably less of an issue in the Bay Area).

Did you catch them on the Gold Sounds not-actually-a-reunion tour? They broke up my senior year of high school, so I'd pretty much resigned myself to never seeing them live. It was kinda like seeing the Jicks playing the songs you actually wanted to hear. Still pretty great, though.
