I feel like management consulting is just a phase in one's career after accumulating a certain amount of money/experience/relationships etc. before moving into something with a better work-life balance

Is that friend still a consultant? Some people deep down inside just love PPT presentations but don't want to admit it

The big consulting companies do a pretty good job of retaining those they want to. I'd leave my job for Accenture (for example) in a heartbeat. My friends who got out of engineering to work there love it.

He went back to engineering, though I think that he has a more managerial role these days.

For all married couples, a HHI > $100K is 56%.

where are you getting these numbers?

last census listed median household income in the low 50s. unless the distribution is absurdly chunky (which it's not), it's not possible for household income > 100k to be at the 56th percentile

for the record, personal income in excess of 100k is something approaching the 95th percentile, not sub-81st as the net income ref would suggest

this feels vaguely similar to everyone telling reedo to ditch law school yesterday--lots of generalizations and hearsay

I worked in management consulting out of undergrad, and it wasn't uninteresting at all. on the whole, great experience and step stone for other things I wanted to do. I think a lot of multi-billion dollar companies would be surprised how much of the 'consulting' is actually driven by 24-year olds though

it's not like house of lies?

i work in a multi billion dollar company, many times over, and management is laughable

i know very few people making 100k, i'd say most of the people here make sacrifices in other areas to afford their "luxuries"

i own many multi billion dollar companies
