The late Carl Sagan shits on human intellect by proxy every single day.

also, actually liked the fact a girl at work wore flats rather than heels with blazer, vneck sweater and trousers today. might be a first

not sure carl sagan ought to really be taken as a representative scientist. he was a little exceptional.

frankly, the lack of self-awareness and willingness to change course in a lot of research science is pretty astonishing though. we've been a decade away from a theory of everything in physics for about the last 100 years. about what you'd expect with a subset of the population whose identity is almost entirely founded on knowing and understanding things

I have a lot of lawyers in my family, one of my Cousins made law review and lived in the financial district in Boston and one of my Uncles is very wealthy and retired early... but they definitely paid for it. Any good law firm will work the crap out of you after you are done with school for many years.
This... A friend of mine went to a wedding a couple weeks back where the bride's mom was (still is?) a partner at Kirkland. She pretty much does not know her mother.

Also what Dorje is talking about is the good side. Much more likely (nowadays) that you'll be worked to death, but for very little money. There's so much oversupply that employers can get away with paying next to nothing. And remember, 90% of grads don't work in big law.

If you are in say Indiana, house on lake with own dock you could buy 3 houses all larger than one in the bay or one massive mansion at 1 million
