This is strange to hear aren't you commissioning the interview of every designer appreciated around here ? I think it's useless, personally, for the very reasons you've elaborated ....

I specifically tell the writers to ask them about their ideas about design and about the business of fashion.  These are things with which designers are intimately familiar.  I steer clear of subjects like philosophy and world politics.

Don't back down.  I agree with you that her statement is just whackadoodle.  It doesn't take away from the fact that she is a very gifted designer.  I think that a SZ level investment in the designer as "someone who has something to say" is naive.  Clothes are clothes.  The people who make make them well are good at making clothes.  Doesn't mean that they have any particular talent in anything else.  Do you expect that a great violinist is going to tell you the secrets of life?  Does David's Beckham's "football intelligence" imply in any way that you should make him your spiritual guide?

I hear ya. I was exaggerating though. I actually didn't think it was that bad. Didn't sound too philosophical to me, mostly just about her personal process. It did get a bit cheesy, saying nothing new can come from a situation that doesn't involve suffering, and that's where I rolled my eyes.

i second the idea of introducing mikey to the pleasures of debt

as long as you pay off that ish within a few months and don't spend too much more than you would without the card, you won't be too far subsumed beneath the ocean of interest

eh, the idea of using a cc to buy clothing at this point in my life is pretty off putting.

Get one and use it to buy a coffee or something once a month.  Easier now since your credit limit will probably be like $200 to start anyway.

my credit is already fucked for reasons i don't care to explain here.
If you know that you're going to have proceeds soon then why not leverage with a CC first to make a purchase knowing you will pay it off on due date? You just have to be responsible and have a bit of planning. You need to start building a credit history anyways.
honestly it's just the concept more than anything else. my primary income right now is a minimum wage coffee shop job. i don't need to be putting $200 jackets on a cc.
