Oh, whoops... I was reading on my phone and didn't even see your lulzy post.

I was just responding to LA Guy's comment about arm wrestling being a real sport.

it's been a few weeks since i replaced my slp's with stan smiths, and ss are far superior in every way. they even crease better, so i suspect that even the leather may be of superior quality patch[1].gif

can't wait to get a varsity and have everyone ask me if it's slp plain.gif

correction: everyone over a certain age knows that movie. i always lump it together with other favorite (and terrible) mid- to late-80s tough guy movies from childhood, including:

Commando (Schwarzenegger)
Predator (Schwarzenegger)
Bloodsport (Van Damme)
Kickboxer (Van Damme)
Rambo, first few (Stallone)

and then there were really bad ones you couldn't even enjoy like Road House (patrick swayze...weird) and anything with steven segal uhoh.gif

How can you not enjoy Road House ??

And Rambo (First Blood) shouldn't be on that list.

I'll always remember Steven Seagal best in MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch, where he gets killed by David Spade.

swayze just never seemed tough to me. i dunno. never bought it. still had his image from dirty dancing in my head, i guess.

why shouldn't first blood be in there? because it's early 80s or because it's actually good?

oh, forgot Rocky IV. another stallone winner.
Yeah, First Blood has little in common with its nonsensical sequels. I mean, it's not The Deer Hunter or Taxi Driver but it's still pretty decent for what it is.
Dude, Road House is an unmitigated classic; the Kevin Smith commentary on that is priceless, too.

Also, you forgot Best of the Best and American Ninja II.
i hear ya. kinda like the first rocky, which is really good. and then it was downhill from there...

could almost put karate kid in the list, too, because of the story arc, except for the fact that the protagonist is a wiener.

^edit: didn't remember American Ninja II so I had to look it up. Here's the synopsis from IMDB:

"On a remote Caribbean island, Army Ranger Joe Armstrong investigates the disappearance of several marines, which leads him to The Lion, a super-criminal who has kidnapped a local scientist and mass-produced an army of mutant Ninja warriors."

Classic.

Whoa whoa whoa there, you've basically just said the equivalent of clothing from The Gap is on par with wings + horns. The two Schwarzenegger movies are WAAAAAAAYYYY better than the two Van Damme movies, and as Sipang pointed out the original First Blood is a legitimately good movie. If you're looking for movies that fall in with the ilk of Over the Top might I recommend Cobra, Red Heat, or Raw Deal.

Not buying Swayze as a tough guy is part of the magic. They even reference it in the movie - "I though you'd be taller"..."I get that a lot". Sam Elliott's character deserved his own spin-off movie, plus there's ample material for a prequel where we could discover in detail the events that led to "the incident in Memphis". When you think about it, if Dalton hadn't come to Jasper wouldn't this be a prototypical scenario for the A-Team?
