Sucks that LNCC so drastically reduced its brand selection. I'm sure there's a market for $2000 umbrellas and Lanvin/Balenciaga/... make more sense moneywise but I miss the esoteric Japanese stuff and all those smaller more confidential labels.

Same here. The few rare times bands actually stay on schedule always confuse me and from the looks of the crowds, usually everyone else also.

I missed Savages here on Tuesday because I was too sick to get my ass out of bed. I even had a ticket. Damn it.

It probably would have sucked anyway, I wouldn't beat myself up over it.
I'm pretty optimistic about their new album though

What sucks is that customers are not really that adventurous, and that designers are not willing to meet them halfway. What I mean is that it's hard for customers to want to try something new when that something new comes with a big pricetag. Every customer does a little analysis in their head before making a purchase, and especially online, there is simply too much risk involved in purchasing a $2K jacket from a designer about who they have heard nothing. They might try something new if the designer puts out something that is more financially accessible.

I hear variations of "It sucks that customers just want the basics." from a variety of designers. And so they design some basics, often without much enthusiasm, and then showpieces that are awesome, but hard to sell, not just to "normal" customers, but even to hardcore fans, because the pieces are both challenging to wear, and expensive. And it's often unclear that the designer thought it would sell anyway. It's like the design equivalent of throwing up your hands. It would be good if they could really put thought into making it cost less to make, and thus, to sell.

Love the new Washed Out abum. How does it translate live?

I'd say pretty well. He's touring with a full band, which I think makes it more energetic and fun to watch than a show relying heavily on looped tracks. The drummer is pretty awesome, too.

I skipped Savages when they played here because it was a weeknight and they were going on too late. I want to say it was a 9:00 show with two openers. frown.gif

was crunched for time, so didn't get a close look at much. cursory look was nice though. also liked that their men's buy seemed to be oriented toward wearable but slightly 'riskier' and more interesting pieces. lots of jackets, trousers, some lighter weight knits. only saw two pairs of the marsells and their chunkier knits (these specifically) weren't really my style, but sa said they'll be getting more stuff in the next couple weeks.

I'm torn on this. etiquette says yes, but when I'm already paying $100-125 for shipping, like, wtf. I've both tipped and didn't tip (got a couch and a chair/ottoman earlier this year).

exactly.  i've already paid close to $100 between the delivery charge and shipping and handling....if these guys had to move in multiple items i'd be more inclined to tip them.  but we're talking about one table that isn't even that heavy.  it's a wrought iron sofa table with 2 glass shelves that will be separate.  it can't weigh that much...it's just awkwardly sized.

Regarding tipping I had 2 furniture deliveries a few months ago and one group left before I even had a chance to tip (literally dropped it off and out the door before I had a chance to check to make sure everything ok). The other group guy said no and I offered water which they denied as well. Not sure if it was some sort of policy or something

I'd probably tip if there's no delivery charge (or just a nominal charge) or if there's something "extra" involved, like carrying it to a specific place in your house, unpacking it, &c.

Can anyone recommend a decent travel steamer? I'm looking for something I can throw in a carry-on-sized suitcase when I need to dress biz-caz for a few days and don't want to use a hotel iron.
