How about Cuba, rum, cigars and girls. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

For some reason, I really want to go to North Korea.

I may end up on the weirdest holiday ever Iran, Burma, North Korea and Cuba.

perhaps i was doing it wrong but i didn't enjoy cuba all that much. you can go to the fully touristy areas but then you might as well be in a resort in the algarve. once you step off that route, people are wonderful but they live in such straitened circumstances and are so desperate to get out that it's a bit depressing.

You go to the algarve a lot? How is it? I haven't been since I moved to PT.

I haven't been to a resort in 12 years and Portugal in 20+, so I wouldn't know.

Personally I want to go before it gets fully homogenized, which seems to be very soon.

Was quite liking what I've seen of 08 Sircus 2013-14 AW... now I'm not sure. Hmm.

never been, just what i imagine those resort places are like. yeah of course one should see cuba as it is, for good or bad. i'm sure it'll change a lot once castro is gone. it's just hard to really embrace the whole 'rum, girls' stereotype when you've seen 22 year old women draping themselves over fat 50 year old german dentists.

If we follow that premise, you can't go to Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Eastern Europe, Colombia or any up scale bar in the world. etc.

From my experience, the Algarve and central america (never been to Cuba/ Caribbean) are not really all that alike. Like at all. Actually, that makes no sense.

Also, the Algarve is overrun with Full English Breakfasts. Not as nice as the rest of Portugal, Sagres and the rock towers notwithstanding.

ha, yes, i just meant that those types of holiday resort are constructed along similar lines everywhere.
and finn, of course you're right, and i didn't mean to sound sanctimonious, it was a very subjective response on my part.
random memory: gf and i had really looked forward to night at a famous rooftop restaurant in havana. when we got there it was fairly empty, it was hurricane season and a tropical storm had just blown itself out. the only other diners were a late 50s german guy in an obviously fake toupee, and a very pretty young local girl. as the evening went on he got drunker and drunker and started pawing her: eventually my gf announced in a loud voice that she 'felt sick'- at which point the guy staggered over and offered to fight me.

I asked this a few days ago, but seemed to get lost in the shuffle. How does EG sizing compare to Needles?

I have seen that pretty everywhere in the world, where there's poor and rich in the same place, there will be golddigger, que Jamie.

I stayed at resort in Thailand years ago, where there was this fat German dude in see through green speedo at the pool everyday.

You guys need to travel more, either geographically or through economic circles, this is almost universal. Next time you think that wealth disparity is not a problem look at the kind of social climate it creates.

certainly there is wealth disparity everywhere, with all the attendant problems of prostitution etc. the big difference in cuba is that the place is so safe (the advantage of an all-powerful state) and the people so well-educated you are able to move freely and strike up a rapport with absolutely anyone. of course i've been to rio etc but I didn't visit peoples' homes in the favelas.
