It was merged with the Alden-thread when someone asked whether to get his nephew the white or black achilles.

booo. so to bring the customs discussion to a close, if I were to have a $450 jacket imported from Japan, would it be cheaper to have the store ship via EMS directly and pay customs, or use a proxy and pay little to no customs but still pay all the fees associated with the proxy? For some reason I feel the total would be roughly the same.

One that's already made and capable of being measured.

Depends on your country's import tax, honestly. redface.gif In Canada, customs for clothes can reach 50% of the item value.

I'll always have a happy time wearing a jacket like that.

I just received a pair of shoes I paid the seller $250 or so for. Sent with UPS. Can Gov charged me $30 for duties, UPS charged me $65 for handling all the paperwork. Ie $100 on a $250 item, FML and F-UPS too

Is it realistic that Visvim boots were priced in JPY equiv. to ~$350 USD as recently as ss11?

Didn't you know ahead of time it was coming by UPS? Every courier charges maximum everything, every time. But in my experience DHL fees are the highest and they are the only courier that has ever completely lost a package of mine.

I hope you are happy with the shoes!

I have a pair of shoes circa five hundo coming in this week via FedEx, and the seller assured me there would be no duties on delivery but I am still on edge (I've been hit to the tune of 30% by them before).
