Gdl starting his own shop with some help from Parker/Bows/dieworkwear. Interesting to see if any SW&D type stuff will make it.

Both the Thurston Bros and No Man Walks Alone stores are and should be cool. The big difference between Thurston and ToJ is that ToJ is sorta a fashion startup, and is really about fashion (lambskin, varsities, etc...) and Thurston Bros is a legit motorcycle gear shop. The lightest leather available from Aero, from fashion jackets, are as heavy as a the heaviest that Drew would have carried. If you are in RRL, or want a leather that you can really break in and live hard in, Aero is a better choice than ToJ. The fits are also dialed in, just because Aero has been around so long. However, the designs are pretty much what they are. It's good, in a way, because most MTO where there are too many options end up looking mediocre to terrible, unless the maker really works with you, and you are lucky. I mean, designers go throught tons of samples of original pieces to get things right. I expect that that's one of the many reasons Drew decided to not do just any options. To expect to get things right the first time is nearly impossible. I am going to get a blue cafe racer from them.

Aero and Vanson have always done MTO. The real difference is that Thurston Bros. has a MTO allotment with Aero, which means that you get your jacket in 5-7 weeks, as opposed to 4 months. For me, that's critical. I am going to get a blue cafe racer from them.

NMWA should be cool. I chatted with Greg about his stock, and I think that it will surprise you. It's not CM in the way, say, The Armoury is (i.e. great for that demographic, but not with that much that I need or want to buy for myself.) There is a lot of that as well, of course.

my wife decided to start a travel blog chronicling our past and future trips. short write-ups with our photography, a lot of which you guys have seen posted here. we plan to make it a weekly thing, but will run out of past trips at some point (which should indicate when we need to take more). above is the link to our inaugural post.

Hey people who order ish from japan-- if a japanese webstore actually ships to the US using EMS, should I go that route, or would it somehow still be cheaper to use a proxy? Gracias

avoiding proxy is good

This is good to know, thanks for the insight. It's really cool to see SF branch out to legit motorcycle-tough leathers, but I doubt I'd ever order any of their jackets. If the distinction between ToJ and the leathers that Thurston Bros. carry can be accurately summed up as a fashion/not-fashion gap then, well, I'm still sorry to see ToJ go since it's really the best option I've ever encountered for stylish leathers at that price. I've checked out Schott NYC jackets in person—they had a booth for their S/S and F/W stuff at the Chicago Collective last Monday, which was pretty neat—but it was a real letdown as far as the fit and feel of the leather was concerned. It's possible that briefly owning a ToJ spoiled me, but even more likely that I've a very narrow idea of what a leather jacket can fit and feel like. Tough luck I guess.

I haven't had anything sent from Japan other than via EMS, but everything I've sent to Japan has been $20+ (pants, shirts) via USPS. If it's over 3 lbs you're at $35+ (shoes).  I think EMS was like $38 for my Buzz Rickson, so I'd stick with that. Unless the shop's charging like $70, then the proxy might be worth it.

Would you be able to re-sole those clear sole MMM's?

wat. Aero MTO, not match up with ToJ? facepalm.gif

edit: I realize I am late to the discussion. To add my 2 cents, the reason they won't match up is because they are different. Also, Aero and Lewis (I think Thurston also carries this?) is not at all lower quality than ToJ..

Gotcha, thanks. Haven't contacted the store yet, so I'm not sure about specific shipping costs, but my main concern was the customs charges.

Any other dark olive options besides W+H?

I do not think Chinos would be very flattering on your figure Cyc...your suits already look too tight in the seat, plus, square shoulders

Find something more comfy or a better cut
