actually was going to post about it in more detail. So I was at the Royal Palace and walking around looking for the Serge Lutens store TBH. Walked past the Rick store and told GF I wanted to check it out, she went to Acne in the meantime. The shop is pretty small and not a whole lot to look at, like 5-10 footwear and like 20-30 items max. Maybe they had more stock somewhere? Not a whole lot to look at, and half the stuff was electronically wired to the rack, which seemed strange to me for a small boutique in a higher end area. Plus there was a full lifesized statue of Rick a la madame tussads, looked completely lifelike, towering on a high stand lit from above, somewhat surprising visually actually. I don't need to tell you guys about the aesthetic or anything, interesting stuff, way too baller pricetags for me. I'm interested in the aesthetic along with his contemporaries but it's a bit of a stretch to fit into my current lifestyle and related the the discussion from GraphicNovelty a few pages back, it's hard to find this stuff at fast fashion. I don't think H&M/Zara/Topman are doing a whole lot of dropcrotch hightops tanks etc so sort of hard to dip a toe into the look in a quick and cheap way. But that's a whole other discussion. Plus I'm like 5'6, not super short but I'm pretty deliberate about what I wear to try and work the proportions to my advantage.
Half the fun of Paris was just looking around at what people were wearing actually so the GF and I were always on the lookout for cool personal styles plus the usual fashion trends. So we were on the lookout for street styles and walking along the Siene there on a Sunday afternoon to check out one of the big museums, as mentioned the GF spotted Rick and i recognized him. We were talking about it later that it's sort of funny but of all the names out there, there are actually very few designers we really know by face. Like I wouldn't know what Geller or Wang or Slimane or whoever even looks like, but Rick I did, only because we'd been to the shop the day before and I'd just seen a posting (I think here on SF) about designers who actually are models for their own worn like Ford and Rick including pictures. Anyway, sort of embarrasing but I'm on vacation and it's europe and hot and all that so I'm wearing a loose red bengal seersucker shirt (Michael J Krell!), loose blue linen pants and white purcells and aviators... so basically sloppy trad?
So the guy's walking along the riverside, long straight hair streaming behind him, black tank top, black 3/4 shorts or something and some dunks. We see him and I jog to catch up to him and sort of loudly ask "Rick?", no response, so I walk a bit closer and see headphones. He's fairly tall (6'?), lean and muscular, well tanned, and has a weathered face, but in a good way. On a personal note, I pay a lot of attention to how people move (particularly their walk) and he had an energetic fluid movement like the kind of person who plays sports and has developed good coordination. Someone in the thread where I originally posted (unexpected encounters with celebs) said he's from Cali, which I didn't know but it does make sense now though. I remember he was walking fairly quickly. I tapped him on the shoulder and he pulls out the headphones and gives a smile and is like hi(?), and I smile and go Rick!, and then having no idea what the hell to say to the guy but sort of nervous I just start babbling... I said I was just at your store yesterday so I recognize you from the statue and I think your stuff's pretty cool but I don't really know if I can pull it off you know. And he sort of gives me a quick up down and says aw you've got a nice body, and I mustave blushed and I said aw thanks (oh come on, you would have done the same). I think I said something about being too short for drop crotch and realized I was wearing sunglasses which was sort of rude so I take them off and look him in the eyes and he says oh you've got really nice eyes, and again I'm like, mumble mumble thanks, I guess I work with what I've got. And then sort of realize the guy is probably just trying to go for a walk and i'm like a fanboy holding him up with no real purpose so I say well anyway just wanted to say hi and nice to meet you. He puts in his earbuds and keeps on walking. I jog back to my GF (who for some reason just waited across the street) with a big ol' grin. She snapped a couple of pics (I'll post it when I get them from her) and afterwards I sort of thought shit I should have asked him for a photo or something. He's a lot more interesting to meet IMO than a huge number of other people I can think of. Anyway, that's the encounter as I can remember it.
TLDR: Me in Paris, Me meet Rick Owens, Me like designs but not baller enough
