Blade Runner.....Rutger Hauer especially, but the mood is as influential as anything the actors wear.

Scarface is a huge one for me, everytime I watch I get more ideas. Just the other day I was thinking damn I need a thin cream knit/jacket like Alejandro Sosa's to just wear it open with a nice shirt or something

'Brother' is a fantastic Japanese gangster movie.

A lot of those Takeshi Kitano movies have similar wardrobes.

Didn't yohji do the designing for some
of them or one of them?

Some, but not all IIRC. I think Brother was the first time they worked together?

I haven't watched brother in 12 years. I don't remember anything really fashionable about it in any way.. the main character was cool in blazer and sunglasses.

If I lived in San Francisco, I would sign up for AiP's leatherworking class. Snow, you should make SF your next stop after London and SF people should go check her new workshop out. She's really friendly, but try to avoid class times if possible. You might even get a peek at some next level custom orders being made. What she has on display should give you an idea of the material/workmanship quality.

I also signed up for her newsletter. $3k for a beginner's course.. I wonder who the target audiences are.

Enthusiasts or people trying to maybe get into it professionally I guess. Class was full last time I swung by.

I have one of the backpacks (20L).  Like most vis things. it's overpriced.  All of the materials are really nice, but I wish it had more pockets.
