Really? I've been doing some research, and the guy identifies the second as a Heriz, made in NE Iran (obviously not old enough to be truly Persian). From what I've read, the inconsistency, dyes and geometric patterning indicates that this is correct, though I'll need to examine it in person. I've learned a lot about rugs in the past hour lol

Both are hand knit in Iran, estimated to be between 30-70 years old, in good condition, both 5'x7'. First one he's asking $250, second $350. Which? Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

the first one

It's not that hard of a decision as it has already been pointed out

This rug talk reminds me of "scam city" on Discovery/Nat Geo, where they were in Marrakech trying to buy rugs.

The part about distressing items to charge exorbitant prices seems oddly familiar... just can't quite place my finger on it tinfoil.gif

That "Scam City" thing is stellar. Love that sort of thing.

I almost got suckered in to buying a "handmade Afghani 1-of-a-kind war rug" at a local shop, until I punched it in ebay and saw hundreds of them at much cheaper prices.
