i string all my empty fifths on a chain and wear it around my neck. you can tell i'm coming a mile away from dat clink clink
post #79862 of 109053
I actually had my first drink late into 19 (I was "straight edge" before lolol), and it was all downhill from there, probably explains why I consume so recklessly now.

Is anyone else a bit disappointed by Arrested so far? At least in the first 2 episodes, a lot of the jokes were pretty unfunny and even a bit offensive, and the characters are far less likable than in past seasons...I'm pretty sad about it

Just give it a bit, it improves after a couple episodes.

i started late too, but i don't drink recklessly. reckless drinking is a product of habit. age doesn't factor too much into it.

IMO if you wouldn't do something sober then you probably shouldn't do it, and if you need liquid courage for some reason then you're probably just a coward and drinking doesn't really solve that problem.

This sounds some silly line I hear from teetotalers, who misunderstand the use of alcohol. Anything in excess and not under control can be destructive. However, some people just like a drink - like the taste, like a little bit of buzz, unwind a bit. These days, that's me. Also, I drink mostly okay to good wine, and I genuinely enjoy it.

Alcohol also doesn't necessarily give you "liquid courage". Some people have hangups about things like sex, and yes, it decreases their inhibitions some. Sometimes, however, you do things when you are drunk/have a buzz, that would not occur to you at all, completely sober. and which have nothing at all to do with courage (at least in no reasonable definition of courage.)

An example is the Asian porn thing. Completely sober, I would have dismissed it as "meh, sounds like a big walk home with a box of stuff I don't need or necessarily even want", but that night, I just had a bit of sense of adventure. If you know some of the stuff I've done sober, you'd realize that that had nothing to do with courage, but with a decrease in the sense of "hassle" that usually keeps me from doing silly things. Or, drunken Ebaying. I would not have ended up with some really interesting pieces if it had not been 4 a.m. sniping of a piece I sorta wanted, but that didn't fit in coherently with any part of my wardrobe. Again, this could only be considered "liquid courage" by only the most broad, and useless, definition.

Woke up Sunday morning, made a cup of coffee, and watched the whole season in one shot.  It gets better, but is ultimately shoddily laid out and very confusing time-wise (the same events happening from different viewpoints in different episodes, etc).  Lots of references crammed in there just for the sake of referencing old shit.  It's alright but certainly not as magical as the old stuff.  And I'm pretty thick-skinned when it comes to jokes and stuff, but I did find a lot of the stuff very tasteless.

habanero bloody mary's?!

bloody marys are pretty cool but the best drinks are where the flavors come from the alcohol involved and not just the additives smile.gif

Mixed with coke or in an old fashioned it's delicious.
