Reddit is doing a michael bastian AMA.

They're kinda being dicks to him: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1ewvsd/i_am_michael_bastian_mens_fashion_designer_ask_me/

To be fair, we were talking in the context of Jason Statham movies. So, yes, the one with Julianne Moore.

is it wrong that i actually kind of don't mind the style vs. fashion distinction?

like fashion is what is currently popular and style is knowing how to incorporate it into the way that you like to dress.

coming from a designer it's disingenuous as hell, but i still think there's a distinction to be made.

(I know this conversation has been done to death).

anti-fashion is a 90s movement that is very specific though so I hate when it is used to mean "I'm not superficial guyz, hey guyz!!"

ok, good. that's what I thought. just wanted to be sure though.

i think there can be a distinction between style and fashion, one being individual and one being collective, and i've been guilty of saying i'm into style but not so much fashion. but that's more about semantics than anything else, like when yohji said he hates fashion. but of course yohji doesn't really hate fashion, and i doubt michael bastian does either, even if you think he treats it badly, or outright tortures it. seems clear they mean trends, and hot lists, and media treatment of fashion. but (probably) not the clothing design part, which is also fashion.

thought: fashion is like hipster in that its an idea you basically something you can project anything you don't like about clothing onto.

so when you like style and hate fashion you like the the things you like about clothing but don't like the things you don't like about them.

Some people basically use "I like style, not fashion" as essentially "no homo" and that sucks
