Growing up, I remember my dad wearing mtm suits and polished shoes to work every day, looking pretty sharp. I don't think he ever really found a casual look he was comfortable with, which I find kind of sad / weird. Nowadays he's most often got a slacks + tee + rockport thing happening. Which is pretty boring, but a helluva lot better than him chasing a #menswear look, imo.
I've got this crazy idea that by the time I retire most of my wardrobe will be the same, just more beat to shit, patched, and repatched. Head to toe boro. I don't want to think about new clothes when I'm 60. Just stop in on my tailor every so-often. We'll see how it goes.

This is my ideal as well, except I'll probably start wearing hats at that point.

stumbled across this blogger's reflections on Cloak that I thought were kinda interesting: http://1972projects.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/split-alexandre-plokhov-robert-geller.html. the blog itself is, for the most part, really well written.

anyone know where to get cool suspenders (or braces, if you prefer to call them that)? not the clip kind; the ones that have leather tabs with buttonholes. i guess i should just check out vintage shops, but surprisingly none of the ones i've been to so far have them.

Your dads are ballers. Mine wears Macy's dress shirts that are too short in the arms on weekdays and marathon/special event tees on the weekends.

Glad too see the inclusion of Plokhov's excellent work at Versace. It was a nice pairing: house signatures with a modern, wearable bent. After Plohkov, of course, Donatella promptly turned it back into garbage.

Speaking of Dads, mine has gotten Alden shell loafers and some G&Gs when Barneys puts them on sale. Thing is he doesn't actually wear them, just bought them as he says he will wear eventually.

Nigel Cabourn. Leather tabs. And not too wide.

Like Ervell's, or close. Don't need the silk blend fabric or $200 price:

I have a couple Fred Perry knit polos that have the Ban-Lon style rib at cuffs and hem. Good fit, if you don't mind the logo.

I live for event tees.

Plokhov and Versace seemed like such an odd pairing. I wasn't really paying much attention at the time, but looking back I guess it did kinda work, probably because Plokhov had a genuine influence, which is obvious when you look at the collections.

actually just bought two pairs of plokhov trousers. i really like the cut of his pants.

Is the polka dot shirt the current trendy item that is most likely to look stupid in a few years?

There's a good chance, although I don't think the EG polkadot shorts from this season will look bad anytime soon, due to the size of the dots.

I have been intrigued by a couple of his leg-covering offerings. How would you rate mobility?

I'd say some of the floral prints - I'm talking grandma's curtains and upholstery-level floral - will fall faster and harder than polka dots.

Speaking of which, this should come in the mail tomorrow:
