Like MoK already stated, third is best. and unless you are prince or some guy who owns his own island, buying fine grade is the a terrible idea.

Well it's "roads" instead of "Rhodes", the latter being the original name/the god of sun. also, since I've already gotten two pm's, if anybody's interested in buying some art, just pm me. I just got off the phone with my dad and he said he'd get some pictures and prices of stuff my grandpa wants to sell. I should know in a few days, and yeah, if anyone wants me to send pics/prices just pm me and I'll send them as a soon as I have them. (sorry for clogging up the thread with this!)

Haha.

I own two framed posters from Rothko. I was in Reedo's position about a year back, clueless, and just went on allposters.com and looked at a lot of stuff. Didn't know anything about art or interior design at all, so I didn't recognize his name either. I even got a poster of The Catcher in the Rye, which I'll admit is pretty cheesy, but I really enjoyed that book when I read it in my early teens.

I've probably fallen for a lot of those "cliches" but who cares? If you like it that's all that matters. Over time your taste will change and you can buy new stuff. Also check with relatives if they've got old furniture or whatever laying around. I got a couple of chairs and a table which have worked out great.

Yup, really liked it too.

Being a Swede I've watched a lot of Danish series. I don't know why, but for some reason the danes are vastly superior the swedes in making good TV series.

False. Helios was the Greek god of the sun. The isle of Rhodes was produced when he boned a nymph named Rhode.

Do we have artists here? Art I will buy your art if you actually have stuff for sale.

I actually have some of sipang's art hanging on my wall. One's an anime rendition of Van Gogh's postman and the other's a Van Gogh rendition of Wing Zero

Sorry about that, the only Greek mythology I know is from sophomore English class. but you see where the name comes from (colossus of rhodes/roads)

I wasn't expecting any pm's to be honest, so getting two within an hour is pretty sweet! and I know he has lots of art he can sell

you're totally right. if you like it, it doesn't matter if it's "cliche" or not. i named rothko and those others because i feel like a lot of people just kinda end up with them. they're like the prints everyone gets when they don't know what else to get, almost as though the people choosing them aren't really making a choice. they pick rothko or guernica or whatever because they're cool looking and inoffensive in a way (I don't think that of the originals, by the way; guernica is one of the most incredible paintings I've seen, and I like rothko a lot in real life). i say that having had dali prints and a starry night print on my wall for some years for those reasons. haha. so I'm definitely not exempt from thinking that way. not saying you didn't make a choice when you picked your rothko prints. you clearly picked them because you like them, and that's what I was saying to reedo—find what you like. better to have something you really like on your wall, even if you realize it may not be "cool" or whatever, than to have something up that you chose because you wanted some inoffensive background noise.

one day when I have the cash I will definitely buy some real art, as in an original piece that was created by a talented artist. that would be dope

Big fan of Forbrydelsen too. When you're finished with that series, check out Bron/Broen (The Bridge) which is pretty similiar and good.

i can stand in front of a rothko for hours, i don't care what anyone says

I have a couple Thomas Kinkdade (rip) and some G-Richter stuff, I think.

It's really something else seeing them in real life versus having prints of them, the prints are usually pretty lifeless, completely different experience.
