You'll also note that Muji's home and luggage lines are also quite good and fairly priced. Products by these two retailers also are fairly neutral versus the inherent connotations associated with JCrew products.

travel: let's be honest here, I now use Briggs&Riley for travel and don't see the point of having anything else. If I have too much for a computer bag/electronic stuff/newspaper + roller I add an old Supreme duffel and I'm good to go.

Since when was Uniqlo and muji lame in Japan?

Just got my Geller zipper blazer in the mail (the shiny old season one) and it's really cool...feel like the shininess is a little too much for me though; kind of want to get the black or navy version instead now frown.gif

Entire building got the interior walls repainted. An entire job done the whole morning to early afternoon.

I have been sitting in the office inhaling the smells as it finally seeped into our suite. I feel nauseated and have saliva build up. This is sickening. 1.5 hours to go

I use a Briggs and Riley 20" as well - olive - since it's much less ubiquitous than the black, and in the rare case that I need to gate check it, it's pretty easy to spot.

I agree re. Japanese vs. Worldwide positioning, but I think that if you travel enough (and I think that you do), it's hard to think of one and not the other. I think that goes with any number of brands - Topman in the USA vs Topman in the UK is another prime example. I just can't separate one from the other.

Hrm interesting I'll have to check out Briggs & Riley. I just bought a new carry on since the $25 dollar bag I picked up in India has been on its last legs for the past 2 years. I went with the Strongbags Vortex 2 (which sadly is 22.75" vs 22" in one dimension, but other then that seems great).

http://www.strongbags.com/products/bag/vortex-2-flight-crew-luggage-roller.html

My buying strategy basically centered around durability and I looked through some pilot/aircrew forums to see what people gravitate towards there. Seemed like it was the Vortex 2 (Which fixed many of the flaws with the Vortex 1) or various LuggageWorks offerings (More expensive/heavier). They had also said the old Kirkland bags were great, but a post in 2009 said those were ceasing production. See how goes I guess.

Just curious, how different is the UK and US Topman exactly? And as for MUJI and Uniqlo being lame at home, is it through deliberate positioning/marketing, or is it just because they are everywhere? Or do they use different materials?

Back in Singapore honestly I can't find any other retailer that sells, for example, linen trousers, corduroy shirt, cotton-linen blousons, other than Uniqlo. Muji is a bit different as they have lifestyle department; I love the sketchbook and they sell some of the cheapest shoe trees..
