I guess everyone used up their "thoughts and prayers" statuses on Boston earlier in the week, because none of my Facebook friends have made a peep about this explosion, which, I think, is almost as horrific. The video taken by that dipshit Father of the Year candidate is gonna stay with my much, much longer than anything related to the unfortunate Boston incident.
i think it's pretty clear that people respond more strongly to a deliberate attack than they do to an accident. it's kinda the same deal with the gun debate. the newtown shootings sparked a lot of attention, but mass shootings like that are actually a relatively minor problem compared to the chronic gun violence in places like Chicago (http://abcnews.go.com/ABC_Univision/Politics/chicagos-gun-violence-role-national-gun-debate/story?id=18365373#.UXAPoIWVnz8). but planned attacks on bystanders are horrific and shocking in a way that chronic gun violence and accidental explosions aren't. it's not necessarily rational, but that's just the way it is.
