you should even mess up the icing a little on the store-bought cake so it looks less professional. then you can explain how you're not a master baker but you really wanted to do something special and you hope it tastes good

in case it's not clear, I'm kdding, by the way. You should obviously get the best looking cake they have and say you did it all yourself and you know it's not perfect but you hope she likes it.
