I was thinking about this since I read it this morning ...

Aside from the obvious current trendiness and versatility of black in menswear, I wonder if a lot of this has to do with most of us being internet-based enthusiasts and not buying our stuff at physical stores? Without the ability to try stuff on, examine materials and colors in person, color becomes a much bigger risk. Colors need to be coordinated well in order to not look odd. It's impossible to get a real feel for colors and coordinating them over the web. So black and grey become much more appealing choices.

it certainly does make it easy to coordinate in the morning when you're late for work...

“Black is modest and arrogant at the same time. Black is lazy and easy - but mysterious. But above all black says this: "I don’t bother you - don’t bother me".”

I just like black for the simplicity of focusing on a limited amount of things: texture and composition/silhouette. It's simple.

An all black look is easier to pull off with more modernistic looks. I went through an all black phase in my 20's (I was young once shog[1].gif) but that was more badly done rocker (yes black blazer over black jeans and t-shirt). I don't know how all black would work with my growing love of heritage pieces - I'm sure it's possible, just harder.

For sure, black has an aesthetic appeal all its own, but I wanted to analyze other possible reasons shog[1].gif

Just checked out the site and there is a playlist simply called "the world of Johnny Cash", so far so good and the name leaves my dignity intact.

I was thinking about this the other day, actually, after catching the new Barbour ads. Man of Kent: Darkness Rising icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Ironically, I think some of us favour black precisely b/c we have clothing as a 'hobby'. I'm satisfied enough just looking at colourful clothing online for large chunks of the day. I think you see the same phenomenon with designers whose personal uniform is often much more understated then their clothing

Black is awesome, have found myself wanting more and more dark pieces.
To add to previously mentioned reasons why people like black, is that I think it's easier to see the difference in texture and appreciate it more so when it's all similar colors but at the same time different ones smile.gif
