Well most of what I listen to is only a well-produced beat, so where does that leave us?

Closer to agreement. I'm very much down with instrumental music. I just think lyrical music needs to have worthy lyrics to be, well, worthy.

For instance, back in the 90s/00s most of the music by 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and whatever those other names were was reasonably well-produced because it was under the aegis of Dre and co -- but that didn't make the songs half decent, they were awful.

RFT: did everyone already know Viktor & Rolf is owned by Diesel's Renzo Rosso (am I the only one who always thinks of Porco Rosso?)? And he's about to buy Marni? Poeple always talk about Margiela being under his control on here but that's the only one that seems to come up much.

I actually don't entirely disagree with you, on a personal level. I've just come around to too many genres to say that one I don't like is entirely composed of talentless hacks.  Most of the trap genre has atrocious lyrics but that doesn't mean that there is no value elsewhere in the song, even if I'm not sure I really like it (I kinda do but beside the point).

I want to take this opportunity to post a piece of obscure experimental math rock that in six minutes trounces and eclipses the sum total of ASAP Rocky's past and future career.

Also (this time not "rock"):

I didn't say anything like that, I said one "song" was not music it was a masturbatory shopping list, because it is. Then a couple of silly people called me racist.

+1 for Sigur Ros. I love ( ), Untitled #1 and #4 are probably my favorites, besides #3.

Here's some actual math rock:

terrible quality, but good song:

i just hate when people overanalyze music. it's entertainment. if i like listening to a song, i like listening to it, and personally it's not really worth analyzing it on a deeper level. asap may not be the next jay z but i like listening to goldie or fuckin problem when i'm drunk, so fuck you.

same concept applies to kesha. if you don't like listening to die young then i feel sorry for you.

yeah, knew that about V&R but had no clue about marni!!

im too young to have experienced margiela in its heyday but ive seen remnants. the og gats to the duvet coat are both considered grails. im not sure if V&R ever produced anything grail-worthy redface.gif
if we take a walk(pun intended) into the baller sneaker thread we can see how bad the margiela sneakers have become since diesel bought them out.
theres still a bunch of stuff id buy/wear from margiela nowadays but its not the same (again, just from what ive seen/handled)

also, renzo sort of forced margiela out of the company, correct? maybe customers have a hard time forgiving that
