Random fashion thoughts - Page 4647

I'm still not really sure what brad (or brothersport or mikey) are getting at, but I disagree that cheap = boring. Here is a cheap look that I think is fucking rad:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I guess what makes it boring is that a lot of the guys posting basics have rather conservative tastes and go for the denim, ocbd, navy jacket, brown shoes look? If you want to use Mellow as an example of how to use a lot of basics you'll notice that he mixes it up with aggressive hems and colour combos (I think he posted one look with camel and grey that was drool.gif ). Master Milano is another poster that has an eye for variety and interesting colour choices w/o the use of any of the blown-out SF items

I think there will always be distinct groups of people posting (ie. advice-seekers, thumb-seekers, etc.) For me it's just about contributing content. I really enjoy seeing what other people post and so I want to add to that and keep the thread going.

---

I also noticed that Parker has removed all his old pics, but I've seen his thumbs around...

I'm here to farm thumbs and eventually trade them in for my very own pair of Styleforum x Clarks x Ervell Fairisle Baby Alpaca Desert Boots.

But really, good photography goes a looooong way. Oftentimes it elevates the fit by quite a bit

Its not even Designer vs. Cheap or fast fashion. When people talk designer on SF they usually mean the handful of designers they have heard of or handled in their favorite store. 90% of Recent purchases is from the xth collection of the same guy, because Porter/Barneys/LNCC carries them. The variety on SF is very limited in that regard. Also, many of the fast fashion brands advocated here also base their design on past collections of the few big names in the business.

This is more a compliment to brad than anything else, as he is one of the few posters on here that do extend that view.

Does anyone else notice Brad's style gets way better the closer it gets to SZ hegemony style?
MS007 do you buy anything from the designers posted in your young & hungry thread? (great thread btw)
i really like some of them, but somehow i think "oh this is just the over 9000th graduate from fashion school xy"
and i stick to more prominent designers like dries or raf.
i feel that most of these young designers will never become relevant, are too derivative or one-trick-ponies

two points:

anyone else remember when brad started posting and everyone said 'you should do xyz' and he was like 'fuck you it's my style!' and now he's doing xyz?

number of thumbs has much more to do with quality of photography and picture setting than clothes/brands

I think it's a bit unfair that you would ascribe my maturation to people on Styleforum telling me to do XYZ. I've learned from this site as everyone else here has, but I think I'm still doing my own thing. Jet made a post about this a while ago:

You were younger then too so I knew the fickleness would subside and you'd settle into a more (you) mature style which would involve more plain things but with more interesting designs (less emphasis on sex and more cerebral ie. the switch the round toe shoes). Also, progression from cheap shit to nice shit.
That and I didn't expect to see you in an ocbd, duck pants and red wings.

Obviously the primary value of clothing for me is aesthetic, but I'm able to at least see past mere surface details (oh, it's floral! I like floral! so I must like this) and actually learned to value the construction, the materials, things that don't stand out but are very smartly designed. There's obviously some of my glam roots still lingering though, and I don't really want to lose that.

I also don't think my style is very close to SZ hegemony, and if I posted that fit there it would probably be confirmed. That said, there's certainly a bit of influence from those brands, but I don't own nor do I wish to own most of the stuff discussed there.

Formula for thumbs is as follows:

((Outdoors and/or good light photo + F2 or greater aperture lens)^popularity)*history of previous outfits

Go here:

http://www.styleforum.net/t/326778/subscribe-now-ongoing-daily-auction-thread-for-the-ronald-mcdonald-house-holiday-drive/300_50#post_5988299

and bid on 2 shirts (one Sunny Sports, one RJB) donated by Self Edge. 100% of the proceeds go to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Be nice and also get some cool loot. Also, don't like MC show you guys up. Seriously. They have been bidding out of control. It's for the kids.

Cheers,

The retail market is actually remarkably homogeneous. I go to many of the large tradeshows, a lot of showrooms, and also visit, literally, hundreds of retailers, and the top PR firms and showrooms do such a great job that you see a lot of homogeneity, even internationally. Do you think that so many retailers all over North America and Europe all picked up White Mountaineering, which is really pretty quirky, all at the same time? Or that Common Projects has sort of become the go to brand for sneakers in so many boutiques? Or that Margiela went from being a relatively obscure designer known as "the designer's designer" to being the object of rapper's fantasies, organically? You think that it's a coincidence that Julius, of all the Japanese brands with a similar aesthetic, became super popular with the goth ninja "artisanal stores?" Buyers are just as susceptible to marketing and PR pushes as their customers.
