Random fashion thoughts - Page 4576

there are certain threads in sw&d that are not even worth venturing into.

(see: wvg thread, epaulet thread, alden thread, skinheads thread)

also, can we get a "random gettoasty thoughts" thread?

i like toasty's random outbursts, adds a little flava to the forum

it's just.. strange. a lot of really awful outfits but they have epaulet in them so everyone is like WOAH NICE EPAULET PANTS, HERES ME WEARING.. THE SAME EPAULET PANTS! very cult-esque.. and hell, I like epaulet.

oh ya i've seen that the few times i've ventured there

what's odd is that most of those posters don't post elsewhere

yep it's a mini-community revolving around buying stuff from a store. their mascot is NYR. mike will post a very simple v-neck sweater and they're like "HOLY SHIT MAN I JUST SHIT MONKEY BALLS AND CAME ALL OVER MY KEYBOARD, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT ANYONE EVER COMBINED A WOOL IN SUCH AN ORGASMIC WAY.. GOOD. FUCKING. GOD!!!!!!"

i love mauro (and am wearing a wvg shirt as i type this) but that thread sucks too

Seems like you get that with any affiliate thread where the proprietor has a strong presence in the thread. The thread attracts a core group of loyal posters/customers and the thread ends up sort of existing in a vacuum.

Agreed there are quite a few bad outfits in the Epaulet thread, which is a shame, because I think that's not usually a result of the clothes themselves. A lot of the people who contribute photos in that thread just seem to lack any real sense of styling or fit and operate under the apparent impression that nice clothes will seamlessly transition into nice outfits.

teg, i've seen that happen too and left scratching my head and +1 to apk

Sometimes I have a quick look in the skinheads thread, I like how it's just doing its own thing completely removed from the rest of the forum, it's like stepping into another dimension for a minute. Most of the time I've no idea what they're talking about so I guess that contributes to the feeling : )

Ervell + epaulet + wvg are 90% of my work wardrobe. (rest Uniqlo).

I'm always taken aback at the amount of siblings mcarthur must have to have that many nephews.

mauro gets such a bad rap here which is a shame because the fit/quality of his stuff is unbeatable

I wasn't a big fan of their cotton trousers when I had them...

Good knitwear from them though.

Epaulet is great and Mike is one of the coolest dudes out there. That said, I think just the type of brand (e.g. epaulet, wvg) lends itself to that group of people; it's easy stuff to wear, pretty cheap, respectable quality and interesting enough to distinguish it from the rest of the stuff out there. Really perfect ingredients for any joe-dude to be really into it the brand, especially since they can converse directly with the creators. A lot of fits are bad but people can make anything good look like shit (see: schneider thread).

The skinhead thread is ridiculous. Super interesting, I occasionally go in and always end up reading a few pages worth. There's like no bickering or anything, and sometimes it's straight up like a history book. Pretty cool

I don't really get epaulet... and people who dress head to toe epaulet. ivy league people? preppy? it's like a derivative anglo... the singular, no nonsense items are nice though, like the rivet chinos in sober colorways, or the Carminas (though that has more to do with carmina itself), but when they start to overdesign it came across as blah

Edit: skinhead thread is awesome. the people there are the real deal and some don't give a shit what the rest of the forum has got to offer
