ar_six: yes i can agree with you on all points and i was being extremely general

i knew which direction i wanted to go in before law school so thats where the hate comes. plus summer firm job only confirmed and solidified that. learning property and torts to me was a waste but i can see how generally it can be useful.

for me i hate school. dont pay attention in class and can study enough for the exam at the end. id rather work. if i could just pay gtown to give me my degree im ready to work. dont need another year

Don't get me wrong I'd rather work, 3 years was enough and I'd rather do something that actually matters (for monetary remuneration no less) than write about hypotheticals, but it was good while I was there and it made me good at what I do. I thought I knew what I wanted when I went in, which was commercial litigation, now I'll probably never see the inside of a courtroom and really am pretty at peace with that.

Don't get how it's even possible that property law was useless though. Granted I work largely for oil and gas companies so it's pretty ingrained but in any case those principles underly everything from building towers and pipelines to drafting shareholder agreements. What area of law do you do that doesn't involve property?

I agree 110%. Yet schools push this option like crazy, which IMO is pretty irresponsible on their part- they know recent grads aren't going to know what they're doing. That said I know some people that are doing just that right now less than 1yr out of school, because despite going to a reasonably good law school they can't find a job (or if they do its something ridiculously horrible - ex- my friend got an offer from this bankruptcy firm here in chicago- 40k, 6 days a week, no benefits, no bonus unless you sign 30+ chapter 13 bankruptcies in a given month and you cannot get the bonus until after month 6)

Different world down there and honestly different world up here from regional market to market. It is both irresponsible and annoying, from my perspective.

I was working on a file recently where the other side was just a circus, sole pracs acting for various individual clients with no understanding of what they were putting forward. One dude plead this issue, filed a brief, we replied to the brief basically telling him why he was an idiot, he asks the court for more time to research the issue to respond to us and find more cases because we've raised so many questions for him. So basically you've just said "yeah we're suing on this issue but we haven't really thought it through or done any research on it, we just kinda tossed it into our complaint. Can you give us an extension so that we can figure out which end we're talking out of here?"

Of course judges have to be lenient and permissive and give these assholes no end of rope because in the end you don't want to prejudice Joe Smith Client's access to justice to resolve his issues just because he hired a bad lawyer. People complain that the court process is slow, this is a large part of why - though self reps are even worse.

I hate it when I'm aroused by images I'm ethically against.

Oh, and, someone in the comments section nailed it:

But, really, who was supposed to be buying all that overpriced retro 80s preppy/punk **** anyway?
He started out with a good idea, over-expanded, and worse, got too into their hipster cred.
