Why Quebec city instead of Montreal? I've visited relatives in both and much prefer Montreal.

I am planning to take a trip to Japan in January. How much money will I be spending in 8 days other than buying clothes (so basically food/stays & transportation)?

Anyway, everybody should make more money and buy more jawnz.

No, I mean BA (at lots of unis CS and mathematics are both considered Arts degrees). I'm majoring in English with a concentration in British Literature, but they really don't care about your degree if you can do the work; I know more than one guy at Google with a Textiles degree, and one of my interviewers at Microsoft last week was formerly a professional kite surfer.

I'm honestly not too familiar with the consulting world as it's not something too many of my peer group were pursuing. I don't doubt it pays more, but there's a definite quality of life tradeoff. If you go work at Google in Mountain View you can totally get away with doing fifty hours a week of fairly interesting work, three meals a day, be bussed to and from work, and generally have a pretty chill experience.

Where are you planning on staying and where are you going? Are you planning to ball out on food (I would recommend doing so)?

to expand: in a free market tuition rates would be responsive to factors such as number of applicants, the tuition rates of other similar institutions, the economy in general, etc. - sadly that's just not the case.

thanks for this. did not realize we were talking only about public universities. still, shocking that you can accumulate so much debt from public universities

i didn't take any post-secondary schooling. I barely finished high school.

Japan is expensive, budget like 3x what you think you'll spend

Nahneun-
Yes, I should've mentioned where I am going.
I am thinking Seoul ->Tokyo -> Kyoto -> Nara-> Oskaka-> Tokyo and back to the U.S.
I'll probably stay in a hotel in the bigger cities.
About food, I dunno- Last time I ate in Japan I paid something like $11 for a plate of omuraisu or something you know what I'm talking about and I don't know if that was a lot of little for a meal.

stevent-
I miss the pre-2008 when you could go to Japan for a couple days and nobody would notice. So much fun was had as a teenager me for little under $300. I am trying to minimize my spending as I plan on buying full sets of Champion Japan sweats.

you won't be spending money in Japan.... you'll be hemmorhaging cash as if your wallet were involved in a horrific, 100mph car crash! lol8[1].gif oh... did I mention it's expensive?

srsly I've not been to Tokyo, but Osaka twice and Fukuoka once and in general it's more expensive than the US and most of Europe IMO. Hotels are small and pricey, taxis start at $6 before you've even driven one inch and lots of stuff is imported and pricey. That being said, the trains run like clockwork and are like "regular" subway price from what I remember, and there are tons of affordable restaurants with sushi and Japanese bbq, street foods and everything in between. It's still the only place in the world I paid $10 - $15 per piece for nigiri sushi.. and yes it was the best, most mind-numbingly good sushi I've ever had nod[1].gif but I had $15 all-you-can-eat + one beer lunches that were actually quite good despite the vibe that "all-you-can-eat" gives you. SF member Fang66 lives somewhere in Japan... perhaps you could PM and ask him NICELY for any advice. I say that because he's a good guy but easily excitable so be polite... you don't want to get him riled up! LOL

That itinerary is pretty similar to mine when I went two years ago. Budget about 4k-5k total for all your expenses. Trainfare is expensive, especially if you take the Shinkansen. There are a lot of good places to eat. Look for the one week in Japan thread that I started.

"BA is petty limiting unless you have relevant work experience / just want to do marketing."

This is hilariously inaccurate.
