The cooking posts I've seen have been Indian, not middle eastern.

Although I would like to see some middle eastern cuisine as well.

Or some chaat or something.

Basically, anything yoghurty and/or legume-y.

Heed this request Shah

rankings being bullshit outside of law is probably true, but hiring for biglaw (the most sought after entry level jobs coming out of law school) drops off severely outside of the schools traditionally ranked in the top 14.

i'm currently debating getting a phd or not. i would absolutely love to and think it suits my personality, etc but it doesn't necessarily seem like a good career choice. it's kind of depressing watching my roommate get a job at goldman where he'll be making 6 figures in a few years and i'm looking at 10 years @ less than 50k frown.gif

Do honours or MSc, figure it out from there.

Rankings are a very general way of categorizing the schools. If you are going to a relatively high ranked school, you know you have the opportunity to receive a good education. It's all up to the student and how much he/she wants to take education, but in general, I think looking at rankings isn't bad. If you go about undergrad just sayin "oh this is what I think I want to do" and just take a course load that's just going to get you somewhere, then of course it isn't going to seem that great.

I go to a mid-ranked school in Georgia and just from talking to all of my friends going to different schools, I have a lot more opportunities to take advantage of things just because of the sheer amount of shit that's offered, not to mention great professors who are helping me do lots of research, get multiple internships/co-ops, as well as volunteer work. But yeah, ultimately I think the rankings are bullshit but they do matter in some professions/to some people.

LONG STORY SHORT: UNDERGRADS NEED TO NETWORK, YA'LL

If you are thinking this right now you do not want to even really think about applying for PhD schools yet. It's nothing to scoff at; it's a lot of work for (to some) little payoff. If you're not in your senior year yet then you should do an honors thesis if you think PhD is something you wanna do, just at some strange level to understand what goes into it (even though honors theses are generally bullshit and super easy).

If you just want to make money, you want an MBA not a PhD or JD.

Or a BA and go work at a tech company. Starting salaries at BigCo™ tech giants are 100k+ bonuses and if you have the aptitude to become a manager you can comfortably be making mid-six figures by your early forties. Obviously less upside than IB or law, but lower stress as well and much less competition. Also easy enough to be a dev or PM for a years and transition out to an MBA -> consulting.

booooooooooooooooooooooring

BA at a tech? BS you mean? Consulting right out of undergrad makes more than tech on average. The days of every random startup being bought out/going IPO are over.

Anyway, everybody should make more money and buy more jawnz.

Has the formatting gone all screwy for anyone else?

I can't thumbs up anyone because the buttons gone (yes i'm logged in), and stuff like the 'reply' button is just text now, and the 'Go to first new post' button next to threads has disappeared which is awkward because i always use that.

I tried clearing history and cookies but no luck. anyone have any ideas?

Random travel q: need a driveable long weekend trip in January. Friends want to go to Canada, specifically Quebec City. Anyone confirm that QC in January is definitively a good or terrible idea? Alternatives? Can drive 9 or so hours from Philadelphia

Going south sounds infinitely more fun than further north in January.
